Help! Abandoned vehicle on my property

Someone has left their motorbike on my drive and I am drawing a blank in my various attempts to get rid of it. The police aren't interested as it's not stolen, the local council aren't interested as it's private property, a scrap company can't take it without authorisation, a towing company can't take it without authorisation. Etc.

Has anyone experienced this and managed to resolve it effectively?

It is, but this person hasn't booked it.

Oh well then you should put your own lock on it and leave a note on the bike to say that it will be unlocked when the parking is paid for on website X

Just get a couple of strong friends to come and carry it out onto the road and leave it there!

I would do that. My sons would have it shifted in minutes. Dump it in the middle of the road and the council will be round sharpish to shift it when the complaints come rolling in 😅

If that's legal, then absolutely yes.

Fireflybaby · 02/12/2025 07:20

I suppose other people said this... try local facebook groups, might be stolen and dumped there.
Or maybe the biker was so drunk he didn't realise he parked it on someone else's driveway 😁

3awesomestars · 02/12/2025 07:43

Does anyone in your street rent their drive for airport / event parking etc. They could have parked in the wrong drive if the houses look similar 🤣

She’s already said that she rents her own drive out.

gogomomo2 · 02/12/2025 07:56

I strongly suspect that this person has booked a space but made a mistake where to park, try contacting parking companies, if you draw a blank then it is the council’s responsibility

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 02/12/2025 08:41

If there is a wheel lock in place then you can’t wheel it anywhere. Do you have a car and can block it in?

She’s already said that she rents her own drive out.

Which doesnt mean nobody else also does and that the person couldnt have parked in the wrong one.

Move it into the middle of the road. It is then not your problem.

It’s so weird to me how the Police operate in Britain.

In Australia the Police check the vehicle, stick a sticker on it saying it’s been abandoned and someone comes and picks it up and takes it away.

I once called the Police out because a guest visiting my neighbour had parked her car in such a way that cars were using my lawn to drive over. The Police were there in less than 3 minutes and dealt with it immediately.

It wasn’t about the lawn. People need to walk on my street and it’s dangerous when people park badly.

It’s dangerous to have a car parked in your driveway if you need to leave your garage in an emergency or if you need an ambulance.

I just don’t understand Police from the UK.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 02/12/2025 09:20

I'd put it somewhere it will be clamped by the time they came back from holiday. Cheeky fucker.

The council aren't interested as it's on private property.

Drag it out into the street, report it to the council again and deny any knowledge of how it got in the street.

I mean, this changes things a lot.

Someone might have thought they booked it but didn't.
Someone may have seen it advertised and then just decided to use it without paying for it.

If it's not a stupid question, what's the difference between parked on the road and dumped on the road (obviously I wouldn't leave it in the middle of the road or obstructing anyone's drive)? There's nowhere anywhere nearby where it won't be liable for a fine without a permit.

That doesn't sound like a you problem.

Serenitymummy · 02/12/2025 12:04

So I think you've got two options here, one, get some mates to help you move it onto the road and they can suffer the fines/penalties/whatever. Orrrrr, get yourself a lock and lock up the wheel.so they can't sneak off, and then charge them your usual rate to let them take it away. Cheeky fuckers of the highest order

Yamahahaha · 12/12/2025 12:57

It's gone! Got back home a few days ago and it had been moved. Quite glad to tick that one off my list.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
