What do you want for Xmas?

I have no idea!
I work around 60 hours a week so have no life. No hobbies and the kids and dh are badgering me for ideas. There's genuinely nothing I want or need!
So tell me what you want so I can get ideas!

DappledThings · 30/11/2025 19:03

I don't want anything so I am not getting anything. Just as I like it. It's not compulsory. Coming up with ideas just for the sake of it is a weirdness I'll never understand

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 30/11/2025 19:04

For it all to be over.

Failing that, gift vouchers for B&Q.

Wishimaywishimight · 30/11/2025 19:07

The Nuxe advent calendar, a particular book and my favourite perfume DH will get me these plus some surprises (no kids here so we spoil each other and have a bit of a laugh along with a glass of champagne with breakfast on Christmas morning 😄)

I get the 60+hrs but you probably have some defaults so think of those.
For me:
a new orchid
a pretty scarf in natural fibres which matches my usual clothes (proof the giver actually knows me)
random alcohol - wine, liqueurs (no coconut/mango/pineapple/tropical), spirits
longish socks - more than ankle length - in dark colours and mostly cotton
a v. specific, mini, wall calendar which I have charged DD2 with sorting

therewasafishinthepercolator · 30/11/2025 19:13

I had a wishlist of handbag, perfume, trainers, top and a few bits but DH and kids gave me them all for my birthday in Nov. Don't think DH thought that through! 😂

Now there's nothing else I really want right now and I don't see the point in spending money for the sake of it. DH thinks that's awful and I need something for Christmas too. I told him to stick to something small. A book or favourite chocolates.

Is there an experience, restaurant, show you'd like to go to? Something to wear? Book? Cold hard cash? 😆

HansHolbein · 30/11/2025 19:16

I would always appreciate a John Lewis voucher.

RollyPollyBatFace · 30/11/2025 19:18

Beast blender
the new swan hourglass palette
a Georgian bilston patch pot or two
some fortnum and mason passion fruit chocolates

therewasafishinthepercolator · 30/11/2025 19:19

I like l'occitane shower oil.

Are LED masks worth it? I'm curious about those. I'd be tempted but its big money and I'm not sure I care enough. I mean, you can't polish a turd. 😂

Are they life changing?

Greenfinch7 · 30/11/2025 19:19

Really warm mittens that would keep my hands warm when I am cycling around.
2nd hand cashmere jumper in colour that I love, green or deep purply-blue.
beautiful handmade 2nd hand pottery
a picture drawn by one of my adult children
a beautiful houseplant
a session with a personal trainer
someone to hire someone to plaster my bedroom ceiling

I am not going to get any of those things

JetSkiRentals · 30/11/2025 19:20

Fortnum and Mason goodies, a couple of books that I want, a candle and some Lindt chocs.

HoppityBun · 30/11/2025 19:23

I was going to say “peace and quiet“ because, genuinely, one of the things I like best about Christmas is everybody else is involved in their own affairs and I can just get on with being quiet in my own home with nobody wanting anything, nowhere to go and no obligations.

But, on reflection, what makes the time really special is the extra effort that’s put in to meet up with friends and in my case that’s meeting friends individually. Then we have lunch and then go off on our separate ways. It’s the extra little bit of effort that one puts in, which acknowledges how special friendships can be. I don’t have many friends but the ones that I do have mean a lot to me.

That’s why I like Christmas cards. Nobody gets as many as they used to, but it’s just that handshake across the miles and across the years that does mean a lot. Even if the price of a postage stamp is getting astonishingly high.

Happy Christmas OP

@Greenfinch7 may I ask why you won’t get those items?

The Silkin has good reviews and is £90.

landlordhell · 30/11/2025 19:28

A quiet night in ( alone)with the tree lights on and something on TV to watch.

Well, I might get some of them for myself eventually, but if I ask someone else to get (or make) them, that person will probably just feel a little guilty and then not get around to doing it, or they will get something slightly not to my taste and I will feel guilty for being too fussy... so I won't ask- after 35 years we know what creates hassle and irritation!

Hillyhillocks · 30/11/2025 19:31

I bought myself some lovely drop huggie earrings that I sleep in last year. They are ideal as I wear for months and always look like I've bothered a bit. Would that be nice?

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 30/11/2025 19:37

I’ve just realised I’m not going to get any presents. My mum died this year and she’s the only person who bought for me.

RollyPollyBatFace · 30/11/2025 19:40

@TheThingsYouDoForLurve that’s a shame. Do you have other family or friends? Could you treat yourself?

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 30/11/2025 19:49

Thank you @RollyPollyBatFace

My dad is too elderly and whilst he has many wonderful qualities, present buying isn’t one of them. Friends and I agreed years ago to stop present giving.

Too skint to spoil myself this year. I’ve never been a massive Christmas fan. It’s very much to be endured this year.

Edited for typo.

TigerRag · 30/11/2025 19:51

There's nothing I really want. I've asked for a new wash bag and some nice body wash. Really struggled to think of anything!

Lefthandforwaed · 30/11/2025 19:54

A piano. I'll probably buy myself one, as DH tends to be too frugal. It would be for the dcs too, but I'm looking forward to practicing on my days off (I work much less than 60 hrs pw).

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 30/11/2025 19:56

A kenwood multichef thingy. Smaller than my ancient and huge old food processor. Failing that- an absolutely gorgeous art deco Egyptian necklace that's languishing in my local antique shop.

gannett · 30/11/2025 19:57

Someone to tell me what new laptop to buy. I don't want anyone to buy me one, I just want someone to make the decision for me based on what I know I'll be using it for.

Oh wow, thank you. I thought they were at least £200/300.

Yetmorewifework · 30/11/2025 19:58

My other half asked for a list of things I would like. After 21 years she finally ran out of ideas!!!
It feels greedy though makeing a list, so I also printed out the wish list for our local children's charity and hopefully she will get more for them instead. I don't need anything!
