What do you think music will be like in 50+ years?

I've just watched the beatles anthology on Disney plus and it's got me wondering what music will be like in 50+ years 🤔

Music from the 60s and the artists are still very regarded today. As time goes on and the generations who first enjoyed that music die off, I wonder if generations born now will appreciate music from those times? And i wonder if music nowadays will still be played 50 years later?

This is lighthearted and I'm just musing.

Good question. I don’t know if there is a simple answer. There will probably be more AI music and ‘fake’ bands who don’t actually exist in real life.

AI music sounds depressing 😕

I think-hope- that the next generation will be open minded. Because of Spotify, my kids and their friends have been introduced to loads of bands from previous generations.
When I was growing up, no way would I have listened to something from the 60s or 70s; it was seen as really uncool, Radio 2 music for the oldies. With the exception, possibly, of The Beatles.
My kids and their mates like Joy Division, The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Oasis, Pink Floyd… as well as current acts of course. One is highly into music and raves about Kylie and Dusty Springfield!
I seriously hope we don’t end up with AI artists. Although ‘proper’ musicians thought synths and sampling were cheating and that’s mainstream now, so who knows?

That's a good point about Spotify and the like which gives younger generations more access to older music. When I was growing up you had to rely on the music being available physically (usually through a parents collection) to hear those songs.
I really hope AI doesn't take over, music is already quite dire now company to the past. Will future generations just have nothing new to give musically?

Easy to find out. Get Excel to make a graph of music against time, 1975-2025.

Extend the graph 2025-2050.
