Watching the Family Stone and it hits different now since Diane Keaton's passing

My favourite Christmas film, so touching and funny. It always makes me cry anyway, but seeing Diane Keaton who is just brilliant as the mum really got me this time.

For those of you who haven't seen it, watch it! Currently on Netflix. But grab the tissues 😥

Everyone raved about this and they just felt such a horrible family to me! Maybe its different if its always been part of your Christmas.

Oh no I totally agree with you! They were quite cruel to SJPs character and I always feel sorry for her. However I think the fact that the mum is so unwell they take it out on the new girlfriend, who isn't right for the son.

I need to re-watch. I have only seen it once and I just remember thinking they were mostly awful.

I watched this for the first time last week as it’s on Netflix. I enjoyed it, but hated every character! SJP was a caricature and the rest of the family were just rude.

Also the partner swapping? Bizarre!

Agree the Diane Keaton scenes were very moving though

It’s one of my favourite Christmas films but not sure I can watch it this year 😞

I love the film but all of them - including the mum - were just so mean.

I cringed for SJP; her fiancé was awful and the family made no effort; he should not have brought her there. I know we are supposed to feel sorry for Rachel McAdams but she was a typical “I need to make no effort because I have loads of older siblings” character.

The scene with the dad and the brother sparking up is lovely and does redeem things a lot. I’m not sure why I like it but I do!
