Support from parents

In light of the economical situation now, does anyone get financial help from parents/grandparents?
my parents are paying for our food shop once a month, to ease the financial strain on our family of 4.

No, we help some of the older family members instead, their energy bills are too much, quite shocking.

Not directly in terms of literally giving money, but my in laws look after DD2 two days a week, which saves us a lot on pre-school costs.

erm no?

Are you a little bit thick? Do you need help with the question?
Unfortunately in my situation I have no help, and need to help the parents occasionally

That’s so rude, why would you say that?

Azandme · 27/11/2025 22:48

My parents are both dead, so I couldn't ask even if I wanted to.

I don't get financial help from anyone. I didn't expect to and cut my cloth accordingly. One child, when I'd have liked two, bought a house I could comfortably afford on one salary, made sure I had a career etc.

It means I am doing OK - good job really, or I'd be screwed as there is noone to ask.

Sorry for your loss

No, but I feel fortunate they can afford to feed themselves etc. I know friends who are having to fund their parents.

‘Erm no?’ is not answering a question.

KilkennyCats · 27/11/2025 22:55

Yes, it is.

Overthebow · 27/11/2025 23:00

No, we’re late 30s so we’re of the age now where we don’t need help and wouldn’t ask for money from family, especially as they’re now retired. We would give them money if they needed it though.

justjuggling · 28/11/2025 04:54

Definitely not, no.

MarchInHappiness · 28/11/2025 05:02

This was many years ago but I was a single parent for a long time on a fairly average wage. I earned enough to cover the bills but any big unexpected expenses I struggled with. My parents were minted.

On occasion they helped me out with a boiler upgrade or a mechanics bill. Obviously I would rather pay for it myself but that was small coin to them and I had to suck up my pride for the sake of my DD. They were also very generous with pocket money for DD. I know how lucky I was.

BIWI · 28/11/2025 11:45

Sorry but this is rubbish - you can’t need financial support from your parents if you’re earning as much as you say you are on your other thread.
