Ask your child this

I’m not sure how this is going to go - but having seen a few things on social media recently about asking your child how they feel about themselves and me (mum)

me to DD6 - what is the favourite thing about yourself - thinks for a few seconds and then says “I really like my writing - I think I’m very good at it”

me to DD - what is your favourite thing about me? DD - I love all the cuddles you give us, I love that you drop us off and pick us up from school (I work 3 days per week and pick them up from wrap around twice per week) and I love that you cook us meals - even though sometimes we don’t know what it is or don’t always want to eat it

my heart could burst, bless her. I’ll remember this conversation when I wonder (unreasonably) whether I need to buy anymore Christmas presents - the answer will absolutely be no.

in these depressing times (post budget) what lovely things have your children done to make you smile so much?

for balance I want to add my kids aren’t perfect? I’m certainly not perfect, they drive me bonkers a lot of the time - this is not a gloating post it’s a moment in time which makes you smile unexpectedly

Hmm, I’m not sure I like the idea of asking a child what their favourite thing about you is.

It’s a bit icky isn’t it.
