Anyone got a fairly dark lounge (re: tv choice)?

We have a north facing lounge with an extension, so doesn't get much sunlight and tend to just have a lamp on at night. Looking at screens in the showroom some look really good as brigher and colour great, but apparently are better for brighter rooms. 4K UHD apparently is good for darker rooms, looked a bit dull.

If you've got a dark room, what tv screen have you got? Also, do you think the blacks stand out enough and are you happy with what you've got.

Ideally we'd be looking at QLED, or LG do nanocell and QNED. We haven't got the budget for OLED.

OLED are a bit less bright than other screen types, although the recent ones the nits are higher as they improved the screen tech. Beware though because often only the 55" screen sizes and above really have the screen tech improvements. They are better in dark rooms but will do fine unless the room is very bright.

The contrast in OLEDs and picture quality is outstanding IMO. I have a Samsung QLED, an LG OLED (C1) and a Highsense normal.

The Samsung QLED is OK but not as good as the OLED. The Highsense was £200 and is a very ordinary TV and tbh after some time on the LG watching the Hisense makes my eyes bleed. I wish I had never bought it.

As for 4K, I would say on the small screen size (42", 48") the difference between it and HD is negligible. What does make a real difference is HDR which only generally comes with 4K. HDR on an OLED is outstanding.

Screen burn can be an issue with some OLEDs although I have never seen it on mine in 4 years. I do take a bit of care though, I wouldn't leave a game on it for hours and maybe if kids are using it you might need to be careful. I think screen burn is a lot less of an issue on OLED now than it used to be.

If I were you I would probably go for one of the earlier series LG OLED screens which if you shop around on black friday might be available at a good price.

When you think about budget think about how much time you watch TV. If you watch a lot, and value a good picture then getting a good TV is worth it. If you use it not so much then less so.

Remember that nearly all TV sound is weedy, so you will probably be considering a soundbar in pretty short order.

Thanks for your reply - that gives us something to think about. Gone are the days, you just went out and bought a TV!
