Rear collision with 11 month old DD, I feel all over the place.

I’m not really sure why I’m writing this.
I was rear ended at a roundabout with my 11 month old in the car earlier today.

She was really upset when it happened, as was it, I’ve not been in an accident before, but she seems ok, getting her checked by the doctor this afternoon. Other driver admitted fault and details exchanged though he keeps just offering me cash, which I’ve declined.

I’ve reported to my insurance, I did it online and I’m staring at my phone hoping they’ll call immediately.. they haven’t, it’s been 4 hrs. Do I need to do anything else?

I just feel weird, like an empty feeling? I’m laying next to DD who’s having her nap and I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. Is this normal? We are fine, the car will be ok, I just feel… odd? :(

It’s shock. Be kind to yourself. Perhaps have a hot, sweet drink.

DD was in two car crashes as a small child (neither in my car).

She’s a very healthy and happy teenager now and revels in telling people.

It’s so hard when you have these primal feelings as a mother. That fear and shock is elemental. Just be very kind to yourself.

Oh I'm so sorry OP. This must have been really scary for you both.

Do make sure you get a new car seat for your DD. Make sure to include this with your insurance company.

Have a big mug of tea with a sugar. Crap tv on. You can call your insurance tomorrow/today if you'd like. They will be very useful and kind on the phone - literally one of the only call centres/businesses who are totally on your side so speaking to them has always been nice in my experience

Maybe write up on your notes app/email what happened as you remember it, speed, weather, sun position, exact location on junction etc on Google maps. What you said to each other, pix of damage. It'll give you some focus and control.

Have a look if you've got receipt for your car seat and send that over to insurer too, so you can get a new one. Maybe have a look on halfords etc for new seats (usually they give you halfords voucher ime)

Take some time it's a shock and don't be surprised if he then comes back through his insurer and tries to lie and say it's your fault or something stupid. Your insurance is v used to this stuff and a rear ender is pretty straight forward

Totally normal, it's all that adrenaline that's been released into your body having an effect.
