Was this reasonable or not.

We're just back from a short break. Nice hotel, not fancy or expensive, but everything we needed, clean, nice staff etc.

Within an hour of checking out (and 30 mins before leaving for the airport) DP realised he'd left his glasses in the room (I know!). Ran back to the hotel hoping to pick them up and catch the flight.

They wouldn't let him back into the room, telling him to email and they'd let him know if they found them.

I can see their have their process for their reasons, and the woman on the desk was just doing her job, but is it reasonable not to let him look for his glasses, within an hour of leaving?

I would be disappointed in that case. But the room may have already been cleaned.

PrincessOfPreschool · 24/11/2025 19:41

Did they say they'd be happy to post them? If not, I would be well annoyed.

In which case the glasses would already have been found, presumably. So either way they could have checked with housekeeping, or let him back in the room to check for himself.

Very unreasonable.

Neveranynamesleft · 24/11/2025 20:13

A member of their staff could have gone with him. I think it's odd.

Luxio · 24/11/2025 20:13

I don't see why they couldn't let him check the room or get a member of housekeeping to have a look. It's unlikely the room will have been cleaned an hour after checking out and if it had then the glasses would have been located.

Seems pretty petty to say no.

Dartmoorcheffy · 24/11/2025 20:16

I would have stood my ground til someone went and checked the room. Thats just ridiculous behaviour on the hotels part.

Absolutely unreasonable, glasses are a disability aid which he needs to function. Id it wasn’t for the flights I’d be permanently present in reception complaining about this

the80sweregreat · 24/11/2025 20:24

Seems a bit off tbh. They were being unreasonable.

Yes, that was the issue. I'd stayed with the luggage so he could move quicker, so I wasn't there, but he didn't have time to make a huge fuss. He's not generally slow to make his point though.
