Boutique whitening

I’ve just started Boutique Whitening treatment that I got from my dentist. I have the 16% overnight gel.

I did the first night last night and woke up with really achey teeth after about 5 hours. I’ve worn the trays for a bit today with sensitive toothpaste which has eased it. It’s not unbearable but finding it quite annoying to have this lingering ache.

My teeth weren’t sensitive at all before so I genuinely didn’t anticipate this!

Does it get better as you continue the treatment?

I had the boutique toothpaste which helped the sensitivity when I was using zoom at home kit.

The one I wore for an hour was awful as the whole next day my teeth hurt and it stopped me sleeping as the air touching my teeth when I breathed hurt too much!

The overnight one I found has less sensitivity afterwards even though the gel is stronger.

So yeah I think they are all like that to a lot of people. I've heard people saying you get used to it but I didn't!

Not gonna lie/ I had to stop after a week of using as my teeth were on fire!

I also had achey teeth from this worn overnight - a bit like they’d moved a bit.
To be honest it’s turned me right off wearing it, certainly for 7 hours, so I might consider getting the stronger gel and wearing just for an hour in the day.
Or not, if I hear any more reports on pain! 😬

Ah - I might look into this. I was just not prepared for this! I’ve got a Colgate sensitive that has helped but still feel achey!

Did you get results after a week? I’m dreading 2 weeks of this 🙈

Same here! My teeth don’t feel right at all. Kind of wish I hadn’t spent all this money now!

I got mild results after a week but tbh I was gutted that I went for the trays rather than having the UV jobbo- I only avoided that because of worrying about pain! I have really sturdy teeth too- never had any sensitivity before and never even had a filling!

jimmypug · 24/11/2025 18:15

It made my teeth feel weirdly wobbly. And I was having to do hours a day of sensodyne in the trays to try and calm it

TroubleMakingWitch · 24/11/2025 18:21

Same here. Never had any sensitivity at all and no fillings either. I naively thought this would be a breeze!

I am wondering if the one off in-clinic whitening would have been preferable now but my dentist only does the at home version so I couldn’t be bothered finding an alternative.

I think at some point I will have it done in clinic, but I’m so put off from the trays I haven’t dared even think about it. The dentist really really didn’t explain how bad it would be pain wise (I know I wasn’t being a wimp- my pain threshold is very good, I have tattooed palms ffs!)

jimmypug · 24/11/2025 18:32

As a quickie fix that lifts a little bit, the my sweet smile powder makes them nice and squeaky feeling

Same! I’m a bit peed off really. I’d put it off for years due to the fear of pain factor. Yet the dentist said if I don’t have any sensitivity now then chances are I will be fine. Reading more now - it seems the majority do get pain!

Did you complain at all?

They kind of made out like I was some kind of anomaly and normally people feel very little pain- kind of like I was being dramatic! I was really annoyed

Misty999 · 24/11/2025 19:08

Gave up on them made my teeth more sensitive and couldn’t tolerate the pain each time I put the gel on.
