Look at my stupid new cooker

I’ve recently bought a new Belling cooker to replace my broken one. Everything seemed great until I came to use the oven. The little indicator line at the top that points to the temperature turns with the knob so once you turn it past about 45 degrees you can’t see where it’s pointing to unless you get on the floor and peer up at it, and it’s a faint line anyway and not easy to see! So I’ve now got to get some kind of marker or sticker to indicate where the damn thing is pointing to.

How is such an obvious design failing missed in development? Did nobody ever try to set the oven temperature during the whole process? Honestly my mind boggles at the stupidity.

Tell me about your stupidly designed appliances if you like.

OP, I just looked at your picture to admire the gap, and need to tell you, the gas ring is still on.

Oh Christ! I wondered why the gas meter was whirring round like a Catherine wheel, it’s been four days!

Have a look at them , unfortunately they are to narrow for my oven because it's got about a 3 inch gap on both sides so I use a strip of tinfoil folded over several times ( for strength) and taped down with masking tape. It looks a bit odd but it works .

Because I'll never find this amazing post/link again if I try to watch the thread instead. Thank you!

Not entirely related to the issue so might not help, but do those knobs press in so that they are flat against the front of the cooker? I know someone who had a cooker for years before they realised the knobs could go flush with the front bit. It might be that you could then see the temp bit easier so that at least when you push them out again you’d know more accurately how far round to turn?!

@Junibugthey don’t do that but thanks anyway!

We decided to go with the sticky dots suggestion. They’re a little bit big but we can at least see what temperature we’re choosing now - hurrah! 🙌
