Of course. But then I'd be eating aswell, and sleeping soundly.

Florencesndzebedee · 23/11/2025 12:48

Depending on build it takes approximately 1 hour to metabolise one u it of alcohol. A bottle of wine has around 9.5 units of alcohol in (depending on strength). The person might feel a bit crap though.

ShesTheAlbatross · 23/11/2025 12:53

I don’t drink anymore but I think it’s about an hour per unit of alcohol right? So 9-10 units for a bottle of wine, and driving 15 hrs later? I think you’d be fine from a blood alcohol level POV.

TubeScreamer · 23/11/2025 13:39

No

I wouid be over the limit and very very unwell. My limit without feeling dreadful is 2 glasses.

Why do you think you'd be over the limit?Does your body metabolise alcohol significantly slower than average?

That sounds more like an allergic reaction tbh. Unless there’s a serious medical problem 4 units of alcohol doesn’t impact people like that! I haven’t drunk alcohol in 4 years so my tolerance would be nil and I think I’d still be OK to drive 15 hours after a bottle of wine (not that I’ll be testing it out!)

NellieJean · 23/11/2025 13:49

Mist of the responses in here make an excellent case for tightening up the drink drive laws by reducing the legal limit.

But chances are someone would have an alcohol level of nil so how would that make a difference? I don’t drink btw so no skin off my nose if the drink drive limit is reduced further.

In what way? Stopping drinking 15hrs before driving is well within the limits? Had she said between 9pm til midnight it would be slightly different.

Dontcallmescarface · 23/11/2025 12:28

Not really. It's 4.3 medium glasses. So 41 minutes per glass over 3 hours

In my opinion it is. A bottle of wine would last me 2 or 3 days.

We're you thirsty OP?😂

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 23/11/2025 13:58

There are some very sanctimonious people on here.

From a blood alcohol perspective it will be fine. My personal issue is that, if I drank that much in the middle of the day/afternoon, I'd fall asleep for a few hours then wake up late evening and be unable to get back to sleep easily.

Drinking a bottle of wine very occasionally does not make someone an alcoholic.

Pharazon · 23/11/2025 11:34

I wouldn’t be capable of doing anything the next day, least of all driving.

This. Couldn't drink a whole bottle of wine in one sitting.
Also remember that, if you are pondering on doing this over the festive period, there will be far more police patrols doing random stops. My exhusband was caught and banned for a year.

Oh my goodness - 1 bottle of wine over a Sunday lunch - there are some very serious & judgmental people on here when it comes to alcohol!!!!

IwishIhadcheese · 23/11/2025 14:05

I wouldn’t but I’m overly cautious and wouldn’t have even one glass if driving the next day.

I’m not uptight or judgemental towards others, I have witnessed the effects of drink driving and wouldn’t risk it myself.

NormasArse · 23/11/2025 14:06

Yes.

I wouldn’t if my last glass was say, midnight though.

Tryingatleast · 23/11/2025 14:08

Nope, I’d be so paranoid I’d be dangerous

QueenStevie · 23/11/2025 14:09

Yes, of course. That's bags of time to leave your system. I wouldn't even feel like I'd drunk anything at all by that point the next day.

Not judging but it’s a bottle not a glass

Netcurtainnelly · 23/11/2025 11:59

I wouldn't be drinking a bottle of wine like that so quickly in the first place.

Me neither. And especially not in the mid afternoon! Judgemental? Moi?! 😆

Yes, but so what? A bottle of wine in an afternoon is a lot.

.

PodMom · 23/11/2025 14:11

If I drank a bottle of wine I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed the next day never mind drive so no 🤣

Exactly. A bottle of wine in one sitting, in the mid afternoon is a lot by anyone's standards. Anyone justifying it, and saying it's 'perfectly normal' needs to give their head a wobble, and look at their drinking habits!

HalfWayAroundTheLoop · 23/11/2025 14:16

Thanks everyone... I didn't bother in the end. My anxiety in the morning would be through the roof!

Pepsi Max for the win.

OP posts:
TamarindCottage · 23/11/2025 14:16

No. I’d rather err on the side of caution. It’s just not worth it

Wickedlittledancer · 23/11/2025 14:20

Yes of course, anyone who wouldn’t it’s just anxiety rather than you’d be over the limit, it would be totally out your system by then

QueenStevie · 23/11/2025 14:25

This thread is very enlightening! I'm assuming OP doesn't do this every day so once in a while on a lovely, lazy Sunday lunch is not really a cause for concern. 15 hours is scientifically plenty of time for the alcohol to have left your system. How long do you have to give it then? An extra two hours, an extra three hours? A whole other day? Why the arbitrary extra time? Unless there are specific circumstances that means you don't process things as quickly as usual, what will be different? The alcohol will be gone.
