Tips for spreading butter

We used to have Lurpak spreadable, so no issues with spreading it. But I've changed to Kerrygold recently (not the spreadable stuff) and it is just ripping the bread up when trying to spread it.

Its kept in a ceramic butter dish on the kitchen worktop. The kitchen isn't particularly cold, but obviously cold enough to stop the butter from getting spreadably soft.

Any tips to help with softening butter, or spreading it smoothly?

If you have a microwave I'd nuke a small amount to soften it (try 5 seconds at a time)

Heat the knife under the gas

taken out a lump in a dish before you need it - it 10 seconds in the microwave.

My nan used to put it on top of the radiator just before she needed its

10 seconds in the microwave at this time of year helps

Keep the lid on the butter dish. 15 second microwave. Use the back of a dessert spoon to spread it, not a knife.

Support British farmers.

Thank you 😄

No gas appliances, but maybe could hold the knife under the boiling tap for a few seconds.

Microwave sounds like the way to go - and I'm intrigued by the suggestion of a spoon to spread, rather than a knife!

I cut off a piece of butter so the block remains clean.
Be careful with the microwaving, it melts quickly. I'm another back of a spoon spreader.

Nordpak from Aldi is good if you want a spreadable.
