Is there any support

Hi,
Really not sure where to post this but I’m feeling lost. A few years ago my Dad had a stroke, which has left him needing alot of care and support which my Mum has been doing.
Over the last few weeks her health has been declining and it’s looking like she will be in hospital for a pacemaker in the next few weeks.
It’s likely my Mum isn’t going to be able to continue to care for him but I don’t know what options we have. Both are too young for their pensions so no support there. They can’t sell the house to pay for care as my Mum needs somewhere to live.
Is there anywhere I can start to look for some support for them?

thanks,

You will probably need to contact adult social services

Adult social services are the right place. You could ask for an emergency care needs assessment and a carers assessment due to your mums upcoming surgery and therefore her inability to continue caring for him as she's done - they can arrange carers to come in or for him to go into respite care depending on his care needs during the time your mum is out of action, then work out what the longer term looks like.
Going forward, if they have savings under £23k in your dads name (or what would be half in joint accounts) then care is funded on a sliding scale until they get down to £16k. The house is disregarded as your mum lives there.
I found ASS really helpful when it came to the crunch with my parents, but your mum will have to be really honest about what she can and can't do - and so do you. Its better to say 'I can't help at all' and then be able to do an hour a week of taking your dad out or a social pop in remembering this could go on for many, many years than his provided care being built around you being part of essential care.

Thank you. I’ll look into contacting them.
