Hey! I got my first midwife appointment this week, i’m a bit confused as the first pregnancy was at the gp, is it normal for them to come to our house? what’s the reason? do they wanna check our property?
plus what should i expect them to ask? i got a cat will they ask anything about it?
Thank you

This is very odd, I had later visits at home but only as I was planning a home birth.
In answer to your cat question, no they won’t give a toss about that.
I guess it could be to check out your living situation but as I say it is a new one on me.

My first midwife appointment was at home, was the norm in that area. She didn't care about the cats or inspect the house.

yh when i search on internet apparently is usual to be at home, just checking as even tho the house is fine and suitable it gets me nervous not knowing if it would be inspected so just wanted to check if it was actually normal, thank you😊😊

It's normal. They are only looking for red flags that might suggest you are vulnerable e.g living in a bedsit, the sort of filth or hording which might indicate mental health issues, a controlling partner etc. They won't be concerned about your cat although they may give you advice about keeping yourself safe from toxoplasmosis.

It’s normal - my DIL has her first appointment next week and it’s at hone - don’t worry

Our first appointments were always at home, maybe your area has just moved to this practice and this time round it’s the same for you.

I work in Community midwifery. In my area since Covid the gps surgeries are much less willing to give us the rooms for the number of hours we need, and as a booking appt is usually an hour ish we have to do them at home now on our non clinic days.
we aren’t looking or inspecting in any way. Just effective use of time.
hope this helps to reassure you.

Mine was at home. My pug fell asleep on her lap, she loved it 😆
