Healthier yoghurts and breakfast

Am trying to eat healthier breakfasts - usually i just have toast. Have never liked live yoghurt and I have bowel disease which means I can't eat the ones with fruit bits in them. I eat vanilla yoghurt so thinking about having some for breakfast but I'm also eating too much sugar at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a tasty live yoghurt that's a healthier alternative? Vanilla is fine I just don't want to start the day with sugar

Any Greek yoghurt that’s around 10% fat. Aldi do one, or it tends to be in the ‘finest’ range of the other supermarkets.

Its so creamy and lovely.

If you don’t love yoghurt on its own, I often do a combo of overnight oats and chia pudding with it, so a tablespoon or so of chia seeds, oats, mix with the yoghurt and a bit of milk, leave overnight.

I add cinnamon and berries but just add what you like.

You can get proper Greek yoghurt that is 2% or even zero fat if you are watching calories, or want to maximise protein. I have mine with frozen berries that I warm up.

I like to have Greek yoghurt with a handful of pecans for breakfast sometimes. I think Greek yoghurt is naturally a bit sweeter than others

I eat YeoValley Greek yoghurt, it's mild on it's own but I mix some oats and a bit of runny honey or Lemon curd into it.

It's high on protein so I am managing until lunch without getting hungry, something I never did when eating toast.

Bircher Müsli (prepared the night before) is something DH does or overnight oats maybe?

I eat Greek yogurt with granola for breakfast. Not sure on fat and calories content, but it tastes great and keeps me full as I often don’t have lunch.

I think a lot of them have different tastes and textures so I'd try a few out - I've ended up actually preferring plain unsweetened kefir to yoghurt, as I like the slightly thinner texture that thickens up when I mix with chia seeds. I know it has less protein so I add a bit of of protein granola on top with some kind of high-fibre fruit, and that fills me up nicely till lunchtime.

(If you like the vanilla flavour but don't want the sugar, you can add a drop of vanilla extract or paste to plain yoghurt.)

I have natural or greek yogurt (guess it's not live though) with frozen berries, topped with chopped nuts. A bit tangy to start with, but now I grave it so sometimes eat if I'm peckish in the evenings. It's a breakfast that's great for anyone that needs to keep their sugar/carb levels down. Guess berries might not be for you, but still nice with nuts.

You were asking about yogurt, but I actually enjoy porridge totally on it's own, so no sugar added.

Greek yoghurt, not Greek style.

You can add just about anything to it, honey, cacao powder, frozen fruit, granola, seeds, nuts, peanut butter etc.

Plain yogurt (I vary brand) with big spoon of chia seeds and then random other seeds. I usually chop up some fruit. Banana is great or defrosted red fruit from supermarket. Really nice! Got into it on a Greek holiday.

Greek yoghurt, not Greek style
This is just a taste preference really, they're equally nutritious.

M&S actually do tasty plain greek yoghurt at a great price.

I would avoid the vanilla and get used to plain. The higher the fat content, the tastier / less sour it is.

Keffir plain yoghurt with live cultures. Ezekiel sprouted cereal, gogi berries and fresh fruit.

Timeforabitofpeace · 21/11/2025 11:09

I mix Greek yogurt with kefir, and add mixed seeds or a few nuts, and fruit. Any fruit, including grated apple, of which I have buckets. I don’t always shop for berries. If I’m hungry I have banana.

GreenGodiva · 21/11/2025 11:16

10% Greek yogurt for me, you can sweeten it with maple syrup or honey. But personally I eat mine with a little granola, fresh fruit and some mixed chopped nuts.

QuietDownRobyn · 21/11/2025 11:17

I like Bio & Me vanilla Kefir yoghurt which I top with chia, flax, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I do also add dark chocolate chips and some dates too for that sweet hit.

Thanks for all the tips - I picked up some Greek yoghurt this morning!
