Anyone switched from oil to air source heat pump?

I have oil ch. I don't spend a lot on oil because im poor....and my house is old. Abd cold.

There are grants available, but my concern is that due to how frugal i am with the oil, i will be worse off with the air source heating.

Can anyone share their experience?

I can't comment on ongoing costs but my parents did this switch and their house is finally warm 😄

Our house is sprawling and we were advised to ignore all the advice about combi boilers and air source heat pumps. We replaced our oil boiler with a modern version. Our oil consumption is down significantly and the house is the warmest it has ever been. New boiler fitted in June so this cold snap is its first serious trial.

We did and it’s now comfortably warm! Cost wise, it’s definitely less as we also have solar and battery.

no regrets from here

My house is not sprawling, but i was advised against a combi boiler when replacing the oil boiler fir a new one .

I did 13 years ago. Heat pump tech and controls have moved on a bit since but my 13 year old Mitsubishi Ecodan is still running every day. I’m happy with it overall and the outdoor unit takes up less space than the oil tank did.
What is your reason for replacing the oil boiler? Is it at the end of its life or it to make your house warmer? If your house is cold with an oil boiler because you’re running it frugally, it’s not likely to be any warmer with a heat pump. You will also probably have to oversize some radiators, the cost of which will have to be factored in.
With a heat pump, it runs at a much lower temperature than a fossil fuel boiler so you keep it running for longer periods of time. This is the most efficient way to run it - low and slow. Hence the bigger radiators for lower flow temperatures. But if you just want a burst of heat in the early mornings and another in the evenings, you might be better sticking with oil. That said, you can use time-of-use tariffs and have your thermostats set slightly higher during the cheap periods and lower during the more expensive ones to reduce running costs.
