Quick question - Male UTI & GP or 111/OOH

DS19 has the symptoms of a UTI. He's disabled and i'm his proxy/carer with medical stuff.

Is it ok to wait til tomorrow to contact GP or do i need to call 111 for the OOH today?

Only asking as i was always told UTI in men were an emergency, and NHS website says emergency GP appt or 111.

Pharmacist can now prescribe for UTI’s (well, many of them) is there a large late night boots near you on a retail park, or a nearby late night chemist? It would save waiting half the night for an OOH call and GPs unlikely to have any slots this late, although you could call and ask to be put on the duty Drs call list.

It’s for women only. I used the service last month and noticed this.

Pharmacist can only prescribe for women under 65. Not for men

It’s going to be a 111 job I’m afraid

oldclock · 19/11/2025 16:31

Yes male UTI is more complex and needs a dr

jomaIone · 19/11/2025 16:32

Can you not ring your GP since it's still in hours?

NerrSnerr · 19/11/2025 16:33

I’d give out of hours a call. Obviously we don’t know his level of disability but you wouldn’t want to risk a deterioration in his health over the weekend.

ScaryM0nster · 19/11/2025 16:34

Sooner can catch it tye better, so phone GP today.

Pharmacists do not provide for male uti s under pharmacy first, at least not In my area
