CF wins

Inspired by the "cheapest thing" thread, and its many comments involving CFs, I have a genuinely burning desire to know if anyone has ever got one up on a CF who had previously taken advantage of them, whether from MN advice or off their own bat.

My own example involves the usual "split bill" scenario: 5 people had wine, starters, and dessert, and 3 (one of them me) had a soft drink and only a main course. When the bill came there was no suggestion whatsoever of not splitting it equally. I didn’t say anything at the time as I was too embarrassed, and didn't know the CFs well, or want to make it awkward for the organiser. Recently, though, another dinner was organised, and I found myself busy and unable to attend. I will always be busy for future proposed meals with this particular group. Not brave, I realise, but it still feels like a win to me.

I once had a similar scenario where, after a big group meal, it came to split the bill... 90% of us were happy to split, but there was one couple who made a big deal about only paying for what they had. Absolutely fine. Nobody bothered, said they could work out what they owed and we'd split the rest.

Turns out they'd spent more than everyone else, so they ended up paying more than if we'd just split it equally, and the rest of us got to knock a few quid off what we'd been expecting to pay 😂

This happened to me last week. It was beautiful.

At a meal of six people, me and another woman were the only ones not drinking alcohol. I didn't mind splitting the bill but the other non-drinker was adamant that we should only pay for what we had. She's know as a bit of a cheapskate.

So she got her phone calculator out and went item-by-item. Unfortunately, she forgot that she had a really expensive starter and didn't clock that her three mocktails were £9 each!

When it became clear that she was going to have to pay the most, she said "Actually let's split it".

Reader: We did not split it.
