If you have parents from another country, do you find yourself drawn to non-brits?

This is a strange one. My husband has pointed out that whenever I make a new friend, they are not British. I was born and raised here but both parents are foreign (European). I have some sort of unconscious bias that draws me to other non-brits, even though you’d never know looking at me, or speaking to me. I was talking to a Belgian friend recently who was saying that her son only makes friends with “foreign” kids. And I explained I did that too, now and then. I know this won’t be everyone’s experience but had anyone experienced similar? I can only think it’s wanting to find an “immigrant” community (even though I’m not an immigrant, but raised by immigrants).

I think it depends where you live. I grew up in London and I don't really know anyone who isnt from an immigrant community- Irish, Italian, Asian, Greek Cypriot etc. I went to Catholic school, so my friends from school were overwhelmingly Irish (even though I am not) and I have loads of Irish friends as an adult. My children go to Catholic school not in London and their friends are overwhelmingly Polish with a smattering of South American, Keralan etc. I would imagine if you lived somewhere with a smaller immigrant community your friend group would be different. When my kids went to a C of E Primary school they did nave 'English' friends who they are still friends with now.
