Who would go in and would stay at home?

Sent a message to my manager today, I am off on leave this week but had offered to come in for overtime tomorrow which was accepted however my husband has got a rare day off and suggested we spent it together if possible.

Messaged manager around 3 hours ago to say similar to above DH has day off, it would be nice to spend it together however if I’m needed or it’s busy I can still come in and despite seeing that they have read it, I have had nothing back in return.

I don’t find situations like this easy, where there is no definite answer and leaning towards just going in despite a colleague saying it’s not been particularly busy and it was her she just wouldn’t turn up.

What would you do?

As your manager i would be peeved that with very short notice to your commitment you have made to work, you just text. Call them. Speak to manager.

If they don't reply, it could be because they haven'T seen it. And when you don't show up?

In manager's position, i wouldn't be offering you overtime again in a hurry. You aren't reliable.

You're mistake was saying that you can still go in if they're busy.

You should have said
'Unfortunately my circumstances have changed and I will no longer be able to do overtime tomorrow. See you next week'

some of these responses have really made me laugh.

@Doone22 who seems to think they have worked out my whole work ethos and personality type in a couple of short paragraphs.

@ohyesido Who has forgotten whether my work place policy allows DT when taking OT on AL or not (it doesn’t) all annual leave has to be approved by a manager so they are not going to do so if not allowed!

For everyone else, I had already tried calling but manager had been out the office and was in meetings and was leaving early, this was the best way (yesterday) to approach it’s also how we generally all communicate at it’s an outreach role and well as office.

Not that I feel like I have to defend my work ethic but we are a few members of staff down atm who are off on long term sick. I, out of the whole team put in the most OT not because I necessarily need the hours but because I really care about my role. My manager never asks me to do any extra but most weeks I offer and put in two full days over my contracted hours to help everyone else out. I am a very reliable member of staff, it just so happened that it was quieter week this week, DH had an unexpected day off and I decided to ask the question.

Thanks to everyone else. Yes manager got back in touch with me yesterday afternoon to say was fine and DH and I have had a lovely day together.

I think the delay was just that she was busy.
