Son got his lovely curls cut off will they grow back?

So my husband took my son for a haircut on Saturday and the barber has cut it all off. Hes barely got a curl left just waves. He had strong tight curls.

I'm worried that's them gone for good. Hes only 3 and half. I'm just gutted and so upset about it. I dont know what my husband said when he took him in but I only wanted it to be tidied up. I'm so gutted 😢 before and after picture attached

Picture isn't the best quality but he looks very smart. Long straggly hair is hard to manage and not practical for a young child.

If the curls don’t grow back it means he would have lost them anyway. I had ringlets as a child then it went straight then back curly again at puberty!

Still looks really curly to me. Sometimes the only curls ever are the baby curls - one of mine had this - but this looks like your son still has curly hair, just a bit shorter.

Thanks everyone. It was getting too long and messy and hard to maintain. I just wanted it tidied up its not his first haircut and they've always come back in tidier and curlier every time he's had a cut and this time it's been cut so short.

I just hope they come back. No one else has curly hair so not sure where he gets them from which makes me wonder if they were just baby curls

Did you upload the right ‘after’ photo, because that one shows a child with curly hair Confused

My DS had his ‘end of the hair’ curls cut and they didn’t grow back, but your son still has waves through his hair so he may just get them back as it gets longer

Depends on the hair - I used to buzz-cut my son, and he has a full set of curls these days (tweenager). Cutting it doesn't stop the curls - it doesn't change the shape of the follicle.

Both my boys curls didnt grow back until they were in their teens. Oldest (19) has very long super curly hair now!!

Think it depends on whether you or yr DH have naturally curly hair.

You can’t keep him a baby forever.

If you've posted the right photo, that's a complete overreaction. His hair is lovely.

Our DS is 8 and he has had his curls lopped off periodically since he was about that age. They always come back, sadly he prefers a shorter look these days.

i have curly hair. I loathe it and so i get it cut often and it keeps them away.

You are overreacting, as you know. What does your DH think? why didn't you specify that the curls were to stay if you were so keen on them?

Whatever happens, he will still have a nice head of hair, and you have photographs. It will be fine.
