What do you always have in the kitchen for when you’re hungry in between meals?

Admittedly I am a grazer. I don’t massively enjoy cooking but I can knock up something decent if I had to, but I find sometimes I can’t be arsed actually making something.

what helps other people in this situation when you are just wanting something quick easy ?

I tend to eat 5-6 small meals a day and hate cooking - my go-to's are apples with peanut butter, Ryvita thins (the sea salt and rosemary ones), protein yoghurts with blueberries, dried fruit/nuts, protein bars and babybel.

Defiantly41 · 16/11/2025 16:52

Cheese
crackers
crisps
nuts (plain or roasted)
nori seaweed/Itsu thins
some kind of fruit - varies seasonally

ChallaMama · 16/11/2025 16:52

Mozzarella ball, tomatoes and Avocado- instant salad with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic.
Nuts of all kinds
Rice cakes and cheese.

I always have a few dips on the go - hummus, guacamole and salsa. And then celery sticks, flatbread, carrot and cucumber batons.

wherewillwegoto · 16/11/2025 16:54

I usually have yogurts in, microwave pouches of Uncle Ben's rice and meals (chilli non carne), crackers and cheese, nuts, bread to toast.

dogsandbudgey · 16/11/2025 16:54

And do you all go and purposely make up a little snack plate or do you graze?

Grapes and a good cheddar.
Bread and butter.
Yogurt and granola.
Crackers and cheese.

These are all my go to snacks!

dontletmedownbruce · 16/11/2025 17:00

Packet rice, microwaveable in two mins.

if I’m starving I knock an egg around a saucepan then tip the rice in. Top with finely chopped spring onions (if I have them) and a sprinkle of soya sauce.

filling, and the whole thing takes three minutes.

DeathMetalMum · 16/11/2025 17:01

Cheese is realistically the only thing I always have in. We always have crisps but I don't snack on them between meals at home (only in work).

Otherwise its
Nuts
Cottage cheese - my favorite but hard to buy recently
Sweets or chocolate
Shortbread
Other biscuits
Mini sausages or chicken pieces
Toast with cream cheese
Yoghurt with some granola

DeathMetalMum · 16/11/2025 17:01

Oh and croissants or pain au chocolate.

Zippedydodah · 16/11/2025 17:05

Celery, cherry tomatoes, cream cheese and crackers with mayonnaise.
Fruit loaf, butter and lemon curd sandwich
Crisps, ready salted, dips
Sourdough toast, mashed avocado, smoked salmon, lemon juice and black pepper if ready hungry.
Or homemade mackerel pate on toast (tin of mackerel, half tub cream cheese, lemon juice, horseradish sauce and pepper to taste), absolutely delicious 😋

Petitchat · 16/11/2025 17:06

Obviously:
Fruit
Fat free yogurt
Wholegrain snacks
Seeds
NOT!

Truthfully:
Chocolate
Crisps
Creamy yogurts
Cheese
Biscuits
Cocoa
Muffins and jam

QueenClinomania · 16/11/2025 17:06

Nuts.

momager22 · 16/11/2025 17:09

Jars of olives
babybel or cheese
big jar of nuts
sliced apple and peanut butter
hummus and carrot
ideally I’d have cooked chicken but it’s too expensive

TomatoSandwiches · 16/11/2025 17:09

I buy a pack of chicken drumsticks with my weekly shop and prep them by putting them in a fridge box with a marinade. So easy to take a few out for lunch or a snack, I have cheese and fruit or a yogurt whilst they're cooking but I still get my protien in 30 mins.

LiveLuvLaugh · 16/11/2025 17:21

Sourdough toast and marmite

BeMellowAquaSquid · 16/11/2025 17:24

Chicken satays!

Nifty50something · 16/11/2025 17:29

I don't usually snack but would have some of the things people are mentioning for lunch. And I like the sound of that mackerel pâté.

The only snacks I really have are either shortbread with a cup of tea or else whole almonds or popcorn. The popcorn I make using just plain kernals and I pop it in the microwave in my big covered pyrex dish. Then add salt and melted butter. I do eat chocolate but only after a meal.

InfoSecInTheCity · 16/11/2025 17:38

I’m low carb so my go to snacks are:

  • boiled egg, try to keep some in the fridge
  • longley farms full fat cottage cheese
  • full fat Greek yoghurt
  • peanut butter
  • cheese
  • steamfresh tender greens bags in the freezer
  • wafer thin chicken
  • tins of soup
repeatingabaselessclaim · 16/11/2025 17:58

Toasted bread and peanut butter.
Instant oatmeal with banana, frozen blueberries or raspberries.
Greek yoghurt, with honey , frozen fruit or dry cereal.
Two cups of skimmed milk, or a hunk of Swiss cheese.
Biscuits, if I can remember where I hid them from myself.

PixieandMe · 16/11/2025 18:00

Bananas
Rich Tea or Chocolate Digestive Biscuits
Yoghurt

And do you all go and purposely make up a little snack plate or do you graze?

I try and do little snack plates as I find I then see them as a "meal" whereas if I graze, I'll just keep going back for more, lol.

This morning for example I had a raspberry protein yoghurt with blueberries, and I've just had a dark chocolate protein bar and some dried mango.

BillieWiper · 16/11/2025 18:05

Protein bars
Coffee
Baileys
Wine

TheAutumnalCrow · 16/11/2025 18:07

Jar of beetroot.

Rock and roll lifestyle here.

LoserWinner · 16/11/2025 18:12

I deliberately don’t keep anything like that, which removes the temptation to snack altogether. I’m a healthy adult woman - I can last a few hours between meals without dying of starvation :-) My halfway serious point is that there are numerous MN posters who struggle with their weight, but then keep tempting calories within easy reach. As an ex-obese person, I have learnt strategies to avoid excess, and that is one of them.
