Alternative to Sensodyne toothpaste please (for gum recession & tooth sensitivity)

I have gum recession and tooth sensitivity and for many years have happily been using Sensodyne Sensitivity & gum toothpaste.
When I opened my most recent tube, I discovered the formula has completely changed. Within 3 days the tooth sensitivity has returned, my gums are tender & my tounge & roof of mouth feel like they're burning. Looking online, I'm not the only one finding this.
Any suggestions for a replacement toothpaste to reduce the sensitivity and protect my gums please? Definitely needs to beva paste and not a gel texture.
Thanks in advance.

Interesting. I used Sensodyne for years but switched earlier this year as I found it was no longer working and I was getting sore gums. My dentist recommended Colgate Sensitive Instant Relief (I use the Repair and Multi Protection one) which I have found to be good.

Sorry I can't help but watching keenly because Sensodyne no longer works for me either.

I normally use it after having a periodontal deep clean as I get extreme sensitivity for a couple of weeks.

But last time it did shite all to help.

I use corsodyl .
Tastes horrible but you get used to it.

I havent used it myself yet but some of my patients are using hydroxyapatite toothpaste with good results

I did notice that sodium laureth sulfate had made an appearance in some sensodyne products. I have trouble with this so am having to read labels ATM. Will check out the collgate ingredients.

I've use Sensodyne for years as I can't tolerate SLS, but they've started adding it to a lot of their products.
I'm also finding so many toothpastes to be minty to the point of burning now. Wish I could find an alternative toothpaste that was a different flavour, treated sensitivity and had enough fluoride (HiSmile, for some reason doesn't).

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'll have a look at them.

I did this and noticed my teeth drastically declined. I don’t know if it was coincidence but I’d not had problems previously.

Thank you for the posters explaining why the Sensodyne is doing this - I've been trying new brands out and had no idea this was what was reacting for me. Will check labels for SLD now I know. Worst attempt for me was Euthymol Sensitive - soooo burnnny!

Hazynomore · 15/11/2025 15:33

I had exactly this issue, my dentist prescibed Colgate Duraphat toothpaste and it's really really worked.

Mademoidame · 15/11/2025 16:03

It's not sensodyne rapid relief is it? They changed the formula in the EU so I started buying it from the U.K, where it hadn't changed up to about 6 months ago. I have a stash but will be annoyed if the U.K. has changed it too!

Perimenoanti · 15/11/2025 16:14

I had to stop using sensodyne a long time ago. I switched to super drug sensitive but my teeth don't feel very clean and a bit of sensitivity is back. I'm might try Colgate next.

Biomin is brilliant! Unfortunately it is currently unavailable due to regulatory issues (no idea what that means). I used it earlier this year, and at my last hygienist visit was amazed that I suffered no pain at all. I’m hoping it will be available again soon, as I am just eking out the last of my tube.
