Sarah Cox is a warrior. Children in Need 5 Marathons in 5 days. What is the most challenging thing you have achieved?

What a hero, her strength and resilience is amazing. Saw her yesterday, Gethin Jones running alongside her, she was so exhausted she could hardly speak. How she is keeping young, I don't know!

I think a long hike, doing my Duke of Edinburgh Award is the most physically exhausted I've ever bee, carrying a huge rucksack up hills and getting lost!

Can BBC Radio 2's Sara Cox get Pudsey Bear to Pudsey in Yorkshire - on foot - by Friday, while raising money for Children in Need?

Hero? Really?

PuppyMonkey · 13/11/2025 12:26

I think it’s really unfair to make her do this stupid challenge tbh. Every time I hear them bang on about it, I just think what about her sore hip she was talking about. She could do herself permanent damage. Also it’s boring radio.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/11/2025 12:28

CIN is well past its sell by date.

princesspadam · 13/11/2025 12:30

I agree it makes for very boring radio, I’ve left it off this week as every link was about her
i admire what she’s doing but surely there needs to be a balance

sciaticafanatica · 13/11/2025 12:34

She was crying in pain the other morning but carried on.. I hope she doesn’t do any permanent damage
CIN is well past it…. She not a hero!
also the radio has been so abysmal this week that I’ve changed stations

I mean she did presumably agree to it and shes a grown woman, but I agree the challenges seem to be quite irresponsible imo. When Vernon did his, it was hard and I think hes permanently dsmaged his foot, but I believe he did endurance things anyway. They used to do danceathons and drumathons and things which were silly but not something so physically challenging. Paddy cycling on a kids bike and this 5 marathons in 5 days just seem unfairly punishing. Can you imagine having to say halfway through that you dont think you can continue, with so much pressure on you? I have been listening and im glad Trevor Nelson addressed yesterday that shes being looked after by a good team, and not to worry because clearly a lot of people had called in and queried her mental and physical state. It does get a bit too much all day but Im still listening in on and off.

MO0N · 13/11/2025 12:37

Didn't Eddie izzard do something like that?
She's doing it for her own glorification, probably also pretty damaging too.

TemperatureRising · 13/11/2025 12:37

Oh my goodness, what a horrible response on here. I'm really shocked.

So much for MN, supportive of other females, supportive of strength, resilience and achievement. (NOT) Recognising selflessness. Celebrating other women.

I'm really shocked at these comments. She is amazing doing this for charity, what a woman she is. And yes, a hero for putting herself through adversity for other people's gain.

I don't know what society is coming to when people can even by nasty about stuff like this.

MO0N · 13/11/2025 12:42

How does participating in an extreme endurance event which damages your own body make you a hero who is saving children?

THANK YOU - I am truly appalled at the attitudes on here.

Talk about dragging others down.

These challenges are becoming too extreme - I really felt sorry for her this week - it was too much.

It will end up the same way as 'Top Gear' where someone will really injure themselves.

Sara Cox had to agree to this challenge. There was probably unsaid pressure for her to do this. I do admire her stoicism because she sounded in agony.

squashyhat · 13/11/2025 12:44

You can't throw the word hero around about anyone (male or female) who is doing a bit of a walk for charity. Nobody forced her into it. And before anyone challenges me I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

pinkdelight · 13/11/2025 12:45

Yeah one marathon is plenty. Why anyone thought five would be a good idea for a 50yo non-sportsperson is beyond me. There are other ways to raise money and awareness, especially when you know lots of rich people and have a national radio show. I don't dislike her and commend her resilience in the circumstances, but it's not dismissing that to say this isn't a wise or heroic move.

Yeah I'm really feeling like the presenters are expected to do this kind of thing and it's a really big deal personally to put yourself through that. Poor woman, it's not fair really and although I know we all need a poke to give, we shouldn't need someone to go through that. It does feel a bit 'Running Man'.

Whatwouldnanado · 13/11/2025 12:47

Listen to Sara most days on the radio and she’s a lovely lady and I am worried about her. Her choice etc but the pressure to continue must be enormous. No medical expert but by the sounds of things she is at risk of doing permanent damage to herself. I enjoyed CIN in the days when it was a community affair. My kids did stuff to raise money which really opened their eyes to thinking about others less fortunate and boosted their confidence. One now actually works in an associated business.
I don’t like this “oooh she’s in a lot of pain and being brave so send money” thing. I guess there would be concern about the cost of living crisis if the shift went back to doing stuff in schools etc. I wonder what Tel would think.

Yeah I mean are any of them under 50? Whos going to be next and what are they going to be asked to do? Its bonkers. I have donated and she has raised a lot of money so I guess Im part of the problem...

RuncibleSpoons · 13/11/2025 12:55

I don’t think she’s a hero, I think she’s a mug for allowing herself to be coerced into this . She’s in her 50s and is not an endurance runner. She looks utterly knackered and miserable.

MinnieCauldwell · 13/11/2025 13:04

I am concerned for her, it's a ridiculous challenge. Those donating for her would probably donate anyway. It's not entertainment watching a woman in pain all for charadee

Oh, for heaven's sake. I'm not obliged to think someone else's idiotic choices are a good idea because we both have vaginas.

A friend of mine did the 'seven marathons on seven continents in seven days' thing when he turned 50, and it was absolutely purely about midlife crisis-related self-proving stuff. His family and friends were pretty much 'Jesus, is this a cry for help?'😀

Not this ‘women centric’ bollocks again. 🙄

True support for people (not just women) includes not pressurising them and protecting them from being forced into dangerous challenges for the sake of publicity.

Nobody should feel pushed to extremes to prove their dedication or raise money. It’s not a question of supporting women, it’s a question of looking after people.

Mumofyellows · 13/11/2025 13:23

I really like Sara, what she’s doing is so incredibly tough! I feel for her and hope she wasn’t pressured, she does seem to be finding it very hard (because it is!)
I agree that I’d like to see a return of more fun challenges, but I guess these endurance type ones do seem to bring in the donations!

OrlandointheWilderness · 13/11/2025 13:26

We don’t actually know how pressured she was - for all we know she wanted to do the challenge! Shes a grown woman with agency, it’s frankly insulting and infantilising to not even consider she had a say in this.
She’s been training for it for 12 weeks. As someone who does long distance stuff I applaud her resilience and courage. It’s bloody hard to keep going sometimes and I think she is inspiring.

Boudy · 13/11/2025 13:26

Warrior??
