Would you be upset if DC (17) spelled your name incorrectly?

Just that, DD has filled a form in for her first job, and she's spelled my first name wrong. Think Ann instead of Anne. Would this bother you?

Nope.

HeartandSeoul · 13/11/2025 11:51

It honestly wouldn’t bother me. My children have only ever known me as ‘Mum’, so I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 13/11/2025 11:54

No.

Catnuzzle · 13/11/2025 11:57

Fair enough then. I'm mildly miffed.

No, I’m 40 and often have to think how my dad spells is name and it can be spelt two ways.

Why does it matter?

Why does it matter?

Because I think she should know how her mother's name is spelled. She's 17 not 7.

I don't know if I would be upset, but I would find it really weird.

Is she dyslexic? Just careless? Or does she genuinely not know how you spell your name?

TallulahBetty · 13/11/2025 12:21

Yes. And really weird.

EnchantingDecoration · 13/11/2025 12:28

No, one of my DCs has a middle name you can spell two ways (like Anne/Ann) and I have to check the passport every time I need to fill a form in with it because it's infrequent. I am a lot older than 17 and I chose the name. It's just one of those mental block things.

ButtonMushrooms · 13/11/2025 12:29

I would be a bit surprised tbh.

MD2020and10LambertandButlerPlease · 13/11/2025 12:30

My kids would have probably written Mum on the form instead of my name.

I’m with you OP, I’d be annoyed too. Not downright fuming, just, as you say, mildly miffed.

Wheelz46 · 13/11/2025 12:35

I mean it wouldn't bother me, even mildly.

Was it written on paper or done online? Online could be an honest mistake.

I have seen plenty of people make online applications with their own name spelt incorrectly without realising.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/11/2025 12:37

Yes. How on earth can your adult child not know the spelling of your name?!?

CharlotteFlax · 13/11/2025 12:37

Yeah it would bother me and I'd be telling them to get my name right!

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2025 12:38

Yes, it would surprise me and bother me. I'd definitely be miffed.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/11/2025 12:39

I think I would find it more weird than annoying. Every birthday card, every letter, etc etc probably in to the thousands of times they must have seen my name spelt.

Maybeishouldcrochet · 13/11/2025 12:39

Nope. Mum got my surname wrong on her POA- and I have been married 6 years and that also didn't bother me....

coxesorangepippin · 13/11/2025 12:41

Nope not really

ItsNotPerfectBut · 13/11/2025 12:45

No.

If it’s something like “Ann” instead of “Anne” she may have been rushing

canklesmctacotits · 13/11/2025 12:47

I’d be worried rather than upset.

BauhausOfEliott · 13/11/2025 12:47

‘Upset’ is a bit of a stretch.

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 13/11/2025 12:51

It wouldn't bother me in slightest, I might even find it funny. Bloody awesome teens but organised and good at spelling they are not!

Think there are far worse things teens could do!

Princesspollyyy · 13/11/2025 12:51

Yes I would feel upset and also a bit concerned that they didn’t know how to spell my name at the age of 17.
