T-shirts for teenage boys

DS16 has asked for some new t-shirts but he doesn't know what. He's having a hard time at school anyway so I don't want to get him something the "wrong" make i.e. something parents would wear. I won't go as far as saying brand as that's way out of my price bracket. Although I would consider one as a
Christmas present for him. He is no help whatsoever and is generally oblivious to what everyone else wears.

Do that age range wear t-shirts with prints/slogans/logos? Which? Colour - block, gradient, pattern- or stick with black? He'd probably wear anything I bought him tbh because it wouldn't occur to him not to. If I ask him to choose he tells me whatever I choose is fine.

It’s all very area and age dependent as far as teenagers go. What’s his personal style like? My boys tend to wear baggy, oversized jeans and joggers at the moment with either plain Ralph Lauren t-shirts or the slogan style as above in brands like Stussy. Both would wear a plain Nike T-shirt with a small logo or the plain Under Armour “tech” type sporty tops too.

I always stick to black or white if I’m choosing as I know both will always wear those colours and they go with most things!

My dns are a similar age and they wear T-shirts from Hollister and Uniqlo.

Sorry, forgot to say that Zara is good for plain, baggy tops too!

My dc2 is 16 and prefers plain /no logo on because then he cant be singled out. Tends to stick to white, black or grey and likes longer in the arm (just above elbow). Next are his favourite.

Mine like Pull and Bear (they buy their own clothes and they're pretty affordable) but it might be true that what teenagers wear is regional... My eldest in particular likes very thick material for some reason. The t-shirts usually have relatively unobtrusive and sometimes humourous design elements but aren't completely plain. I think it's part of H&M, Zara etc massive conglomerate, not that teen customers necessarily notice that.

My 15 year old grandson seems only to wear Vans T-shirts, but that may be because he is copying his dad.

However I have bought him a T-shirt from Tokyo Tiger for part of his Christmas present. It has a shadowy shape of a frog on it - as if seen from the other side of a frosted window. I thought it was cool - and I hope he does too. I think he will.

It is very nuanced. People on MN are not really going to be able to advise. It depends greatly on area, school , friend group, personality etc etc. I always see people on MN suggest things that absolutely wouldn't be considered acceptable by my kids and their friends. Do you have any local friends with similar aged boys who can help?

Curfew · 12/11/2025 20:12

I feared that was going to be the answer! No, I don't have any friends with DC his age. He wears loose/relaxed fit (but not baggy) jeans, or joggers.
He refused the obvious sports brands when I marched him into a shop on the way to his doctors appointment this afternoon. He has dyspraxia and is very conscious of it so suspect he would be mocked at school for wearing sports brands (no uniform). Then I'll get him a couple of plain ones.

Mine would wear a lot from theforumstore.co.uk/collections/t-shirts but it's really area dependent. Some would wear sports etc others prefer brands which is a whole other can of worms as to which brands are ok...

My ds wear plain dark coloured tshirts with no pictures/big logos, mainly black/charcoal/navy. He has some from next, matalan, supermarkets and recently got some superdry ones

My grandson (15) loves Saltrock T shirts, I get them in the sale.
