Doing a declutter

I’m starting a big declutter and realising a lot of things I’ve kept for years just stress me out rather than being useful. I want to keep only what I truly use or love, but I’m not sure how to decide what stays and what goes. Has anyone else done a clear-out like this? How did you choose what to keep

I done one literally yesterday in my son’s room. (I have a few more rooms to go) but as hard as it was I just had to be brutal… if he didn’t use it I binned it. And I will do the same when it comes to my stuff if I’ve not used it or seen it jn a while it will be going.

sorry not helpful I know x good luck with your declutter c

Paperwork- shred old bills, going forward arrange for everything to be via email.
Clothing- keep what fits. Chances are if you lose/gain weight it won't be fashionable. Otherwise sell, donate or weigh in at a Cash for Clothes place.
Books- ditch any that you have only read once and aren't likely to again. Going forward join a library. Let them have the joy if dusting them.
Kids stuff- sell or donate.
Baby stuff- donate to a Babybank.
Foodstuffs- donate to a food bank.

I think you’re looking at it the right way. Imagine what you want to keep or if you didn’t have it and saw it in a shop would you buy it.

I’ve just finished decluttering a few rooms and whatever prices you follow, just finish it. You’ll feel so much better afterwards.

I find the best way to declutter is to simply ask yourself ‘do I use this?’. Yes it might be useful, or it might be something given to you by an elderly relative, or something you spent a lot of money on, but if you don’t actually use it then get rid of it. I had so much stuff sitting unused in cupboards and so many clothes I never wore and I found it surprisingly easy to get rid of so much clutter just by asking myself if I actually use it.
