Best fountain pen?

I have recently misplaced my Parker fountain pen and really miss it.
I want to replace it and not spend a fortune (maybe a Christmas present idea?)
Not tied to Parkers and open to other brands, under £100 ideally.
Any recommendations I should consider?
I like them fairly chunky rather than slim.

This will be no good, but I like an ancient Waterman I pinched from my dad. I don’t think it’s valuable or fancy, but it isn’t scratchy or too heavy, which is how I find modern Parkers

I like Platinum pens, the Plaisir is nice and chunky, only £15. I have a couple of the Preppy ones too - same nib but a clear plastic body and cap.

I have a Lamy safari fountain pen (with an extra fine nib which i like). Around £20, plastic casing in various colours.

I love my Lamy Safari, I have the ink converter so I don’t need to use cartridges and I can change ink colours easily.

I have a nice Lamy pen as well.

I have a Parker Urban fountain pen which I love, and which writes smoother than the Mont Blanc which a loaded friend let me try out once.

Dream pen - Lamy 2000 - the Don Draper of pens. I was hoping to get one for my 40th but didn't.

Both my children have Lamy Safari pens, and love them - extra points for the left-handed nib, which aren’t always that straightforward to find.

I was always a Parker devotee, but now I have a Lamy pen too.

My mum always swears by her Pelikan classic fountain pens, and ink bottles rather than cartridges. But I think they would be around or over the £100 mark.

I’ll take a look at LAMY, thanks all. Just seen the 2000. Wow, if only!

You can probably get a second hand montblanc for that price on ebay.

Might not be what you are looking for my I have these:
Amazon link

I have them in a few colours with ink to match. I like they are aluminium and have a converter rather than cartridges. You can also buy spare nibs if you bend on (I dropped my pen - it landed nib down). Comfy to write with but maybe not the luxurious feel you have in mind.

I bought one of these based as a result of this thread and I am impressed. It's a very nice pen, metal casing, nice weight to it - great for the price.

I have a Lamy that I love, but I find it a bit leaky? I’m fully aware that this will be user error but does anyone have any tips for how to improve this?

Blueuggboots · 14/11/2025 13:18

I have a waterman. Like a previous poster, I find Parker pens scratchy and they don’t write well for me. My waterman has a medium nib.
i have also got a cross fountain pen that was £80. It’s nice but I prefer my waterman.
