Still too mild for the winter duvet

Anyone else feel it's unseasonably mild for November? Just a bit too nippy for the thin summer duvet but yet some nights it's still too mild still for the thick winter duvet. I woke up earlier than I would have wanted to this morning because I was boiling up under the thick winter duvet. Check my phone and the temperature is 12 degrees.

Yes I've been saying this. No worries though. I think Friday is the last day of the temperature being in double digits so the colds definitely coming

Heyhelga · 11/11/2025 06:48

Yep a slight drop in temperature would be welcome, then I can start whinging that it's too cold and I'm having to scrape ice off the car window 🥶

What do you mean by thick winter duvet?
Ours is 10 tog
It's fine. But then it depends on the temperature of your house doesn't it. But if you open the window however much you want that makes it colder so you snuggle up. And it depends if you're wearing winter or summer or in between pyjamas as well.

We've got the autumn one on at the moment, I do like it a bit thicker than the summer one as we sleep with the windows wide open

Heyhelga · 11/11/2025 06:55

No idea what the tog of the duvet was now. Couple of inches thick maybe. Context, we live in an old listed building with single glazed windows and solid walls with no insulation - crap EPC rating, windows open all day (always do to air the house), windows closed at night because of fairly busy noisy road around the corner, no central heating on yet this winter except for short bursts on the odd day.

I have my winter duvet all year round.

Spudthespanner · 11/11/2025 06:57

Absolutely couldn’t be arsed with different duvets. We have the same duvet year round and put one or two blankets on top as the weather gets colder. The blankets are in the living room the rest of the time anyway. When it gets truly Baltic, a hot water bottle at the foot of the bed sorts that out.

purpleme12 · 11/11/2025 07:00

What temperature is it in the house?

TheChosenTwo · 11/11/2025 07:07

Yeah we just have one duvet all year round, I’m always underneath it! Just stick my electric blanket on top for an extra layer (pretty much all year round too as I’m always freezing).
Window open day and night for fresh air, bedroom temperature is around 20 during the and heating is off at night so drops to about 18.
dh has commented on how mild it is but as I’m permanently cold I have not made the same observation 😂 I also had ice on my windscreen early on Saturday morning although just a very thin layer which came away with the wipers on.
Live down in the SE.

gaggiavelasca · 11/11/2025 07:15

I agree! We’re still using our lighter one, 4.5 tog. The heavier one is 9 tog but I haven’t felt the need for that once yet. We have the window open a touch during the night.

OldBeyondMyYears · 11/11/2025 07:17

Yeah, I’ve still got my thin summer duvet on and I still wake up too warm…so my leg hangs out 🤣

I definitely had my winter duvet on by the beginning of November last year 🤷‍♀️

EnchantingDecoration · 11/11/2025 07:25

We use a 3.5 tog one in autumn/winter/spring and just the cotton cover in summer. In the depths of winter we have a crochet blanket on top of it which we haven't got out this year yet. No heating overnight (thermostat set to 13 so it comes on once in a blue moon) and the window open a crack but we live in SE England and both run fairly hot. zthe heating is coming on in the mornings when the thermostat is set to 18 but hardly at all in the evenings yet (also 18). I haven't got any of my boots out yet and am only wearing a coat if it rains. Very mild.

Makemeanonymous · 11/11/2025 08:14

I've never had different duvets for different seasons.
I have a microfibre fleece throw which I put on top of my duvet when the weather in colder.
I've not had to use that at all recently, even though I sleep with the window open.

I think this is the first year that this far into November the central heating hasn't even been on yet.
