A one year old needs very little in the way of toys. I would probably buy him a hat. Summer or winter. They are sooo easy to lose.

Nice idea. Any more???

Does he have a children's savings account? I liked this when my dc was tiny and didn't understand Christmas or have any pressing need for items. My dc had stacking rings and shape sorters already, but you could always get something like that. Bath toys are fun, also those ones that can be used in paddling pools? We also had board books of In The Night Garden and things like that.

Melissa & Doug make great wooden toys for youngsters that last well, we had a latches board with different kinds of opening catches, great for dexterity. There were number pictures behind the doors too. We got a lot of mileage out of that

Fidget books are good and multipurpose especially when out and about.

Aldi have loads of lovely wooden toys at this time of year.
Bath toys are always good.
Pjs/dressing gown/slippers
Board books with buttons that they can press
Duplo - perhaps a bit young at one but it lasts for years
Any kind of push along toy to aid walking
A walking dog that barked and wagged it's tail was a great hit at my toddlers last birthday

If he's the first child in the family, this is a great age to get him a book, because he probably won't have all the 'classic' picture books yet so you can choose anything your kids liked when they were little.

Plastic stacking cups, especially the ones with a variety of holes for playing in the bath as well as on the floor. I’ve never met a child who doesn’t get years of play out of them.

My grandson is 19 months and last Christmas he was obsessed with Toot Toot driver vehicles. Even now he doesn’t really play with the sets that go with them - police station, fire station etc) but he loves the cars, ambulance, tractor, digger. He’s got loads

I think they must be a good idea as his mum (my daughter) buys them for her friends children, and she’s quite fussy!
