Tell me where is your favourite place in the UK?
Is it where you live, if not - why don't you live there?

Is it a city, town or a village?

Tell me all about.

I’m going to cheat and do 3 in no particular order

  • south Warwickshire countryside where I live. It’s beautiful and Warwick/leamington/stratford are great
— East central London so charterhouse square, St Paul’s cathedral, Fleet Street etc . I love the history and the architecture. Lived there for a year in uni halls. Would never be able to afford to live there again — north coast Northern Ireland. absolutely stunning. Lived in Belfast for a couple of years and used to go frequently on weekends. still go on holiday there

Luckily I live in my favourite place - south-east Cornwall. 5 minutes walk to the beach, amazing views. It's like being in the Mediterranean when the sun shines as the sea is so blue. Its not too built up (like St Ives for example which I also love but the outskirts are too much like a town for me) Downsides are it's a long way to get to friends and family.

Other places I love

Wimbledon Village- too expensive to live there
Stratford upon Avon area- the countryside nearby rather than the town. Don't live there as want to be by the sea.
Also a fan of London around St Pauls area- a river view house would be amazing. Again too expensive.
Highlands- just utterly beautiful. Too far.

Central London I absolutely adore. But I've been feeling less safer these days.

I love Edinburgh

Borrowdale, I go at least twice a year and every time feel like my nervous system gets reset.

I live in St Albans and it is absolutely my favourite place in the UK, and I’ve lived in various bits of it. It’s got a huge amount of history and culture for such a small city, has a great high street with actual shops on it, fantastic markets, and it retains a lovely bustle and a strong sense of community whilst still being pleasingly green and pretty and close to the countryside.

Second favourite place would be Edinburgh, which I think is just the most fantastic city, but I don’t live there because I couldn’t cope with the weather.

London. My home city and nowhere compares to it. Not just in the UK either.

Sealedwithakiss · 10/11/2025 10:42

I love York. The buildings are beautiful and the history is fascinating. I don't live there though but wish I could!

Yes - but I think it is going downhill - same as everywhere else - just behind the big cities that have already fallen.

I love Whitby. I wouldn't want to live there but I just love it for a holiday.

Crispsandwichfortea · 10/11/2025 10:48

A little place called Ilam. Don't live there as I can't afford it but just the most beautiful place. Up to the national trust property for a coffee overlooking the valley. Bliss and so good for my soul.

Starlight1984 · 10/11/2025 10:51

Argh so many to choose from.

Isle of Skye
Porthleven, St Agnes and Mousehole (Cornwall)
Loweswater / Buttermere / Keswick - Lake District

I used to go to camping in Ilam when I was younger - absolutely love it 😍

I love Whitby. I wouldn't want to live there but I just love it for a holiday.

Oh same here! Getting out of the car and getting a huge hit of fresh sea air and the smell of fish and chips - nothing better 😊

Scilly Islands - St Martins. Channel Islands - Herm. New Forest. Balm for the soul.

clinellwipe · 10/11/2025 14:41

This is making me want to holiday in Cornwall , other than a brief camping trip as a teenager I haven’t explored there at all!

Ragruggers · 10/11/2025 14:54

Cornwall.Wonderful small town by the river, great community, lots to do .Feel very lucky to live here.

Sheknowsaboutme · 10/11/2025 17:29

Rural Snowdonia. Love it 🥰

1000ft above sea level, greenery, slate, abandoned quarries. Hate the city. I dont often go but when i do, i long to come back.

nothing in the city i need. My nearest for days out shopping etc is Liverpool and i loathe going.

I lived and worked on Herm for four years! Fantastic place and a very, very different way of living, but could be a little stifling sometimes - 1.5 miles long, 0.5 miles wide, 400 acres at high tide and you could walk round the perimeter in just over two hours, but, on the whole, an extraordinary place to live.

Now, where I currently reside, in rural Somerset, with the Quantock Hills, parts of Exmoor and the stunning Valley Of The Rocks, plus a beautiful and hidden coastline all just a few minutes drive away. So many different landscapes, oodles of history and charm and amazing wildlife environments. Nowhere finer on Earth.

Probably Anglesey . I would move there but it is a bit remote . I don’t think DH would. Love a lot of coastal places. North Pembrokeshire , north wales , mid wales , Cornwall anywhere by the sea I would love to live. St Ives is absolutely beautiful but a bit too popular these days.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/11/2025 18:41

Isle of Mull. Luckily we have family there. Unfortunately it takes us 12 hours by road and sea to get there.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/11/2025 18:42

Sark
Antrim Coast

Elderly parent and child still at home

FastTurtle · 10/11/2025 18:46

I really like Devon.

I agree. The in-laws live there about half way across so we go often. I love how you are just pootling along the A55 and as once you get past the touristy towns such as Llanfair PG suddenly the road stretches out and you could be the only one out there.

dynamiccactus · 10/11/2025 19:11

Jersey (not technically UK). Why don't I live there, because I wouldn't meet their residency requirements.

I actually quite like Worcester and might move there if I don't need to live where I live now eg when I retire. It's a nice city and more affordable than other places.

For example, I also like York and Winchester but it would be too expensive to have a character house and if I have to live in a 1960s box on an estate on the outskirts I might as well live where I live now (in a 1960s house albeit not on the outskirts of the town I live in).

BlindSpotForCats · 10/11/2025 19:12

Northumberland!

Sea Houses or Alnwick or Rothbury.

Plus Channel Islands if that counts...
