Are there alternatives to sertraline?

My Dh has been taking it for a year now and things are not really better. During that time he has been suicidal again and his mood is generally low and is angry a lot. He has evened out a bit the last few months but it isnt really an improvement, not least as he just doesn't have any interest in any of us or seem to care.

He said last night that he feels dead inside.

I wonder if I should be encouraging back to thr gp for a change of medication. Are there alternatives?

Yes there is a wide range pf antidepressants available so definitely go back to the doctor to switch meds

Yes there are lots to try and sertraline doesn't sound like it's helping. Is he not on a wait list for therapy from the nhs. He sounds quite down so often people need therapy alongside mediation to get better

He is on his third lot of therapy. We are now paying privately. I think it is that one that has steadier things a bit and it feels less volatile but it isnt actually better.

Do different meds work differently?

Yes there are different modes of action. Your GP is best placed to advise

Yep sertraline didn't work for me at all, it made me horrid. Mirtazapine has been much better for me. Antidepressants aren't one size fits all, if one isn't working for him he needs to go back to the GP and try again. It's hard. It took two years to find the right one for me but finding it has been life changing.
