Dead mouse stuck behind bathroom sink

And it really stinks 😷

I can’t get to it, it’s too fiddly because of the shape of the pipes and the sink. I can just about see it with my phone camera if I zoom in. I’ve tried a rubber glove, a skewer, and as a last resort the hoover, but I can’t get to it.

It’s awful, my house is small and the stink is overpowering. I first noticed the smell about a week and a half ago and it’s getting worse and worse. I can’t see without removing the sink how it’s possible to get it out. Help!

My cats are arseholes, this is their fault.

Sorry no suggestions but my sil found one squashed ( dead) under a rug a few weeks ago ! We are currently trapping ours with a humane trap so hopefully no dead ones to be found.

I’m blaming Alan because he seems to be particularly prolific with the murdering at the moment. This one obviously got away…kind of. I’d rather have found its head on the carpet in the morning like most of the others.

Could one of these grab it?

I dunno, the grabby thing looks very small so maybe not 😞. It’s all curled up in a ball so it’s all or nothing. All I achieved with the skewer was getting a few bits of mouse hair 🤮. I think it’s at the stage of decomposition where it’s welded to the floor.

Are you sure it's a mouse and not your husband? What I mean is, has your husband used the toilet?

edit: apologies, I just noticed you mentioned you can see the critter

Haha I don’t have a husband but I do have a bf, he’s definitely not capable of creating a smell that bad 🤣. Unfortunately he works away and left earlier today otherwise I’d be designating this job to him.

At first I thought maybe the drain as it seemed to be coming from the bathroom sink. Cleared the drain and nope wasn’t that. Then tonight had a brainwave and looked in the only place I hadn’t looked. Urgh. I wish I had more than one bathroom so I could just seal that one up until the stink goes away.

It’s a HA house, do you think it’s worth phoning them tomorrow to see if they can help?

I read it as “dead moose stuck behind bathroom sink” which would have been worse, but possibly more interesting. No advice, sorry, beyond trying longer grabby things but it sounds as though they might not work. You could try the HA and see if they can advise if they won’t come and solve it themselves

As it's HA, I'd definitely give them a ring in the morning - they may well expect you to pay, but you don't want to go removing sinks without their permission, just in case of disaster!
Sympathies, my cats are arseholes too.

🤣🤣🤣 a moose would be better. At least I could sell my story to Take a Break or suchlike.

Probably not much consolation but just in case you can’t get to it, they don’t smell for long. They sort of dry out after a few days and then the smell stops. Hopefully you’ll get it though 😊

Yes that’s the first thing I googled 🤣. Apparently it takes longer in humid conditions. The tiny bathroom with two teenage/early twenties DDs is generally pretty humid 🤦‍♀️

Call the council pest control. They’re cheaper than most firms and will be able to remove it.

Pinkissmart · 09/11/2025 22:21

Apparently ground coffee helps with the smell. If you can’t immediately get rid of it, maybe you can alleviate the smell
