Making a conservatory cooler

I’ll start this with saying that we are house hunting and one of our must haves is a room where the dog and cat can be left safely for when we go out and leave him for three to four hours and overnight.

Currently he sleeps in the kitchen, which he is very happy with his little set up. When we go out he is in the back lounge with the cat for company. This works well. But I’d like to be able to leave him and know I won’t come home to a little destruction. He chews zips, so the cushions that come with a sofa have been repaired several times!

Also I’d quite like to have two downstairs rooms that we can sit in without having pet hairs and smells. Yes I hoover the sofa, spray with freshener.

When we are at home the pets have the run of the house.

We have viewed a house and it’s really nice. Has a conservatory that would be great for the pets. But obviously it would be far too hot for them in the summer and we wouldn’t dream of leaving them in there as it is now.

If we have a tile roof put on with velux windows and heat reflecting blinds, maybe replace a couple of the windows with upvc panelling, would this make it cool enough for them?

Also, is it possible from a structural view?

We replaced the roof of the conservatory at our last house and it was very successful in keeping the room from extremes of heat and cold. You’ll need a builder and perhaps a civil engineer to tell you if it is structurally possible. Velux not needed as lots of light came in the windows.

We conservatory was our family room and the dogs lived in there very happily. We added a multi fuel stove and heaters. We had thick curtains we hung in winter.

Thanks @Honeysuckle16. Was thinking of velux for some ventilation as wouldn’t want to leave low windows open when not at home.

Would need a radiator or other non wired from of heating, the dog also loves chomping on them.

Did you need planning permission please?
