Mamas who had 9th percentile babies….

Hi MN,

how long did they last in 0-3 month clothes?

my little girl is 12 weeks old today and she is following the 9th percentile. Still happily fitting 0-3 months.
Im wanting to buy a few warm items for her like a coat etc to last for winter but not sure if I should go for 0-3 or 3-6 months?

would be super helpful to get experiences x

Surely a 3-6 month coat will be fine if it's a bit big?

I was just asking a question thanks for your input 🙄

My son was between 2 and 9th percentile. It was a long time ago but I think he was around 5 months before he was not swamped by 3/6 months clothes

I’d size up. Coats maybe a bit different because they might want their hands out but for something like a pramsuit where if it’s cold enough for it, you’ll have the mitts folded over anyway it doesn’t really matter that much. I went 2 sizes bigger for my baby to try to get it to stretch over winter.

I think mine was in new baby at 12 weeks, then we moved up to 0-3.

Honestly, I wouldn’t put a small baby in a coat. Dress warmly in layers, big cosy toe in the pushchair or warm oversized coat (on you) in a sling. A coat is more for when they are sitting up and moving around, which yours won’t be til spring, so I wouldn’t bother.

Mine was the same, hovering between those centiles until he was a year. He always fitted in the clothes when he was right again the end of the age range I.e 3-6 when 5 months, 6-12 when around 11 months etc

what I would say is Tesco F and F come up quite small which was always good for my little boy

And it was a perfectly reasonable response that didn't warrant a snippy answer. The end of winter is months away so why wouldn't you size up?

Although I never got an actual coat until DC were walking. Just pramsuits and blankets

Mine shot up from 2nd at birth, to 9th at about 3 months, to 50th by about 6 months (where they’ve stayed ever since, they’re now 3 and 5”6).

So I agree with the advice to size up, as you don’t know where they’ll stay on the charts, and because bigger is better than smaller.

But I also very much agree with the pramsuit advice. Far more practice (and cute).

My DD was 9th centile and did have a coat for the buggy (we had a from-birth stroller not a pram with a foot muff). Blanket in the car.
She's still small! But I would always size up.

Timeforabitofpeace · 08/11/2025 22:15

Mine went from 2nd to 75th as an adult. The second size 3-6 months clothes were at 5 months.

I’ve had 2 winter babies and neither ever had a coat. They’re a faff, they can’t wear them in the car, better to have layers and blankets, fleecy all in ones are good and fine to be big because they don’t need to walk in them so doesn’t matter if legs are long
