If you've even been to a wreath making lesson:

  • Have you ever made a wreath since?
  • Would you recommend a lesson or just look on youtube?
  • Did you go with friends/family or on your own?

I've moved to a new area and saw a wreath making lesson advertised. I'd be going on my own, but wondering if it would be worth it? I've never bothered with a wreath previously, because I lived on a high street where it would have been stolen, but my new house would be fine. Any other thoughts appreciated.

I do it every year with a friend as a social thing. I dismantle the wreath after Xmas and save the decorations in a tin. I just go and make a new one the next time. The one we've booked this year is charging extra on the night for decorations or you can bring your own. I'm taking the ones I've saved from previous sessions.

I could easily make my own at home now I've been shown how but I like the fun of doing it with a group of people while having a glass of fizz.

I've realised I am quite good at it without a lesson and just buy all the bits and make my own. But these sessions can be sociable and fun, and are definitely not just about making the wreath.

I went once with friends, we didn’t actually make the wreath though, it was pre-assembled and we just decorated them. It was nice but I’ve never done one again since, mainly because I bought a re-usable one about 15 years ago that looks as good as ever so it’s a shame not to use that. I do like going to craft type workshops and think it’s fine to go on your own or with friends.

Put down a tarp before you start. Makes cleanup much easier.

I'm shit at wreaths. Fabulous at Christmas pots with calendar candles. Don't know what they're called in English?

Advent candles?

I often buy a supermarket wreath and replace the decorations with my own and add some holly, ivy, etc. and a different ribbon.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

-The lesson is close to home so I could walk
-Its £60 and includes a glass of prosecco and mince pies
-I do know a few local people I will ask if they are interested, but would also go on my own if they aren't fussed

I decided on a whim last year to make my own wreath. I went to a local crafty cheap shop and bought the moss wreath, some wire and some ribbon. Then I foraged in my garden for leaves and nice foliage and watched a YT video. Cost me about £15 and was a relaxing afternoon’s activity. I will definitely be doing this again in the coming weeks.

I make my own with friends. Dog walk in the afternoon to collect greenery. EBay or hobby craft for extra bits. Nice Chinese take away and bottle of wine and then we chat away while making our wreaths. One of my favourite days of the year

I’ve been to a few, with friends.

I would never just make a wreath at home, myself. It’s really messy and I haven’t got all the stuff.

A wreath class is a really nice thing to do - there are other nice ladies there and you’ll likely get chatting. I’m sure you’ll be fine to go on your own.

Enjoy.

I’ve been to a few, from ones at my kids school to a friend hosting it at her house for charity to a local workshop run by a florist…I usually go on my own. A friend did say surely I knew how to do it myself but that misses the point! I am a widow with grown kids and it’s a nice couple of hours chatting to new people. Last year I couldn’t find one for a time that suited so I ordered a couple kits off Etsy and invited a friend around. Quite messy (the advantage of doing it at a workshop means not having to clean up after). This year I’ve bought one though.

newuser9090 · 10/11/2025 07:28

ive been to a class the last 3 years but I’m ordering a kit from a local florist this year to do it at home. I love the classes but my daughter really wants to help and isn’t old to enough to go to any classes round here. I am not looking forward to the mess but she is very excited! I wouldn’t attempt one myself with a kit etc as I have nowhere to get all the greenery from.

Blueuggboots · 10/11/2025 13:04

Yes I went to one. I now make my own with the friend I went to the class with.

tipisrevenge · 10/11/2025 13:13

Did one through work, for a donation to charity, really enjoyed it but all the local ones here seem to be £60 upwards. I can buy one a lot cheaper!

HanSB · 10/11/2025 13:30

I did it by myself a few years ago and it was so awkward as I was the only one there alone and everyone else was busy chatting and catching up before Christmas in their groups. It felt like the other attendees main purpose was a social catch up whereas I just wanted to learn how to make a wreath!
I have since made more wreaths so it was worth it for the hands on knowledge of how to make one.
