Is a Najell carrier nest essential or a Tiktok fad?

Does anyone have one?

I had to google it. On my third child, a complete fad you’re very unlikely to need or use.

I also had to Google it. You absolutely do not need one of those.

Had to look this up as my youngest child is 14. It looks similar to the Phil&Ted’s Cocoon I had, which was useful, but about £100 cheaper.

The problem is with stuff like this is that even if your little one takes to it (and it's not a given that they will) you have to lug the bloody thing around any time you go anywhere. Then, they outgrow it in about 5 minutes and you're left with a largeish piece of kit to get rid of (which, if you're anything like me, will just end up in a corner slowly filling up with clean laundry that hasn't yet been put away....you might get round to selling in on Vinted but probably not this century....).

I cannot see any point to them. Someone brought one to baby group once, but she had to wake the baby up to get it out of the car seat! Car seat, bassinet, moses basket, great. Maybe instead of a moses basket? A basket is more breathable though. You could carry a mid sized dog in it afterwards I suppose.

Fad. Nice to have in certain situations but completely unecessary. How large is your house? How far would you be from a cot/ moses basket/ bassinet that you'll need another place to put baby? Could have instead of a moses basket if you want.

Tbh a lot of newborns only want to sleep on you and they'll outgrown this nest quite early. If you do get one then go second hand as they'll be hardly used.

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/11/2025 07:11

Yeah, they won't sleep in that. I had a moses basket which 3/3 of my kids refused to sleep in. One of those beside me bed things is way better to have, or a buggy with a carrycot attachment. They did sleep in their buggy carrycot as I just brought the buggy in the house and you can kind of move it till they're asleep (or they're asleep from a walk). It also reduces the need for extra kit although honestly they used that v briefly (c. 3 months) before growing out of it.

Me too! The Phil and Ted's was really handy. Outgrew it in a few weeks though

If you want a basket to store your laundry in after your baby outgrows it in weeks/refuses to sleep in it anyway you can get a Moses basket for about £30 from Argos.

So I have just been given something similar, but with the following logic:

  • We don’t really drive anywhere so no transfers from car seat
  • Something with a handle I can move around the house with me while they are sleeping is useful
  • It will fit inside my pram so I can then lift out and eg collapse pram if need be

I’m assuming it will be only be useful for a few months however, then I will pass it on!

For my first I had a ‘sleepyhead’ which they like taking (supervised) naps in but I couldn’t carry it round / upstairs etc.

Definitely not a ‘need’.
