What lovely thing has your son or daughter done for you this week?

(here to balance out some of the negative (especially negative about boys and men) posts)).

I have been suffering with an eczema flare up this week. I have never had to take a day off work for this but had to this week as it was so bad.

My lovely 19 year old son saw me suffering, sat with me, hugged me, messaged me advise he found on the interest, told me to see the GP (I did) and sent off for some cream to help ('Rescue Balm' and it is helping)!

What lovely things has your son or daughter done for you this week?

Wishing you all a good weekend MNers. 💕

My son is on holiday in Australia and has made me laugh by sending Snapchats with funny captions.
I've not felt great so my daughter has sent me lovely photos of my grandchildren to cheer me up.

My 22year old bought us a lovely lunch and cooked it for me ❤️

that reminds me @PixieandMemy eldest once said “I wish the eczema would go on me instead so you didn’t have to have it” he does hug me a lot still and “I’m inviting you to strip my bed” today 🫠 age 19

Yesterday DS 20 carried all the recycling out to the car for me, bought and changed the light bulb in the outside light, and bought some salt ready for the icy weather while he was there. Then he fixed one of my kitchen cupboards that had fallen off the runner.

Today he went out to the patio and picked up a stray dog poop that was making me dry heave, then when my friend was leaving after a visit he carried out her bags and packages as she had a bad back.

DD21 bought me and DH some nice dark chocolate that we like because we have been giving her a lift to and from the station daily in her new job.

TheNightingalesStarling · 30/11/2025 18:43

As background... I got very overwhelmed a couple of weeks ago with trying to do juggle everything... full time work (plus extra at the moment due to Christmas... busy time of the year!), DDs extra curricular stuff, school, housework AND DH being away even more than usual meaning I'm picking up his bits as well as my own.

They've made a real effort to do more. Including this evening, the three of us made dinner together. (DDs are 12&14). And they have said they know I'm doing my best even if I get slightly tired and crabby on occasion.

Bumply · 30/11/2025 18:46

My 20 something son asked what I wanted for my birthday in addition to the wine and chocolates he always gets me.

i said what id really like is some help decluttering my flat as I’d kind of got a mental block about it.

He’s just been round and helped sort out keep/dump/donate piles and stack the bin bags in the car for me.

plus he’s assembled my artificial Christmas tree that I find a bit tricky as some of the labels of what goes where have gone awol.

This is such a lovely thread.

I had a bit of a medical scare and was crying, and my toddler cuddled me stroking my hair, saying "no crying, shhhhh".

Nine-year-old bought me some sweets. I'm a single parent and rarely get bought anything so it was such a lovely little thing out of nowhere. Also so sweet as they pretended they were not for me but for them, and asked my opinion on which ones were best to make sure they got some I'd like.

Riddo · 01/12/2025 04:23

DS21 took me to ikea and bought me lunch. We had a lovely time. DD31 is planning my weekend visit for a couple of weeks time. We are going to a Christmas market among other things. They are both great at noticing when I need a cuppa and a hug.

exLtEveDallas · 01/12/2025 06:07

DD thanked me for "Always being there to talk to" and then let me rant for 10 mins about the shit time I'm having at work before giving me a big hug and saying "I wish I could make it better for you" (something I always said to her when she was younger and moaning about friends). Made me smile.

She's also booked us into a hotel after a gig we are going to at Christmas, which is unexpected and must have cost her a bloody fortune! I can't wait to spend some quality time with her.

Ohplesandbanonos · 01/12/2025 22:32

My 13yo dd told me - 'you're awesome mum, I love you so much and I'm sorry I don't tell you enough'. After we had a lovely morning - went out for brunch just the 2 of us and a potter round the shops. Made me cry!

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 01/12/2025 22:37

DD has been an absolute superstar. I'm epileptic and in a seizure cluster at the moment, was having seizures every 30 minutes at its worst. She's been the best - checking in on me, asking if I need anything, sometimes just holding my hand and reassuring me. It's more than she should ever have to deal with at 11 years old, but she's an angel.

You can be a good person and not have chn that do these things.

Of course you can. But being a parent is a minefield. It is deeply satisfying when they get to or near to adulthood and you realise they turned out to be lovely, thoughtful people.

Cornishclio · 02/12/2025 23:32

My daughter bought me a chocolate advent calendar.

Andnowshesatoddler · 21/03/2026 19:53

Bump can we have some more of these please? I love this sort of thread.

My daughter gave me a lovely kiss on my forehead today mid panic attack.

Sisublondie · 21/03/2026 20:00

Oooooh!!!!!! Good idea!! She sounds lovely. I hope you are feeling better now….

My DS19 is at Uni.. he sent me a cartoon of a Big and Little dog, captioned something like “ even though Clifford is all grown up, he is still his Mommy’s little puppy”!

I may have had a little welling up!

VintedVintage · 21/03/2026 20:08

Lovely thread.

DS is a tradie and was round at DDs house helping her do DIY today - the nicest thing that they can do for me, is being nice to one another (as they used to fight like mad when they were younger)
