Very random Christmas puzzle - calling Germans or people in the know!

My daughter picked up a Christmas ornament recently from a car boot. Its a heavy, solid, silver-coloured round bird with a crown on its head. Think it's metal. The tag is still on it with the web address drescher-sw.de

We'd love to know the story behind this ornament but a search online (including web address) has found nothing. Is it a 12 Days of Christmas thing or something related to a German Christmas story?

Totally random post of the day 😆😆

Could it possibly be from the Grimm story of the Willow-Wren who declares himself the king of birds?

relyonnoone · 05/11/2025 17:51

Yes! German friend has just confirmed its the Willow-Wren symbolising Christ's birth and spring. Generally put into Christmas trees. There is apparently a lot of lore which has been translated from the Celts, Irish, Germans etc into christianity.

Does anyone know who

drescher-sw.de

was?

Can't find this website any more @JamieFraserskneewarmer @relyonnoone

drescher-sw.de was a Bavarian company making christmas decorations. They seem to have gone out of business and the website no longer exists.

it seems their business was incorporated in a new company continuing their focus on home decoration: https://stilundmarkt.de/Im-Handel/Wir-bleiben-Drescher

Thank you so much!

You could also try the wayback machine: https://web.archive.org/

(If you have a bit of spare time and have been on MN a while, it's a fun nostalgia trip to put mumsnet into that site)
