If you've managed to lose a lot of weight, what was the turning point for your motivation?

I started "jogging" because I wanted to lose weight to look better. The more I got into my running the quicker I wanted to be and I knew the most effective way to do that would be to lose weight. Over the subsequent 20 years, I've taken action as soon as I gained a few pounds simply because of the effect it has on my running. For me, that's been a much better motivator than an abstract desire to look or feel better.

DP was lamenting to a friend about how he wasn't getting much female interest. His friend told him very bluntly indeed (using language I wouldn't use to anyone) that it wasn't surprising, he was fat and unattractive. That flicked a switch and since DP has eaten and exercised well and is now a very fit middle aged man with a DP 😄

I don't know if that approach would work for everyone, but DP basically decided he wasn't standing for it, rather than that he agreed with him. Most people faced with that would complaining about fat shaming?

I think most people who want to lose weight know what they need to do, but struggle to do it. If you've managed it, what was your turning point in terms of motivation?.

My husbands affair!
Turns out he had a lot more free time than me to do self care during the period of life that had young kids.
Still together with 50/50 on EVERYTHING, gave me the time for me.

My health - being diagnosed as pre diabetic shocked me into action. I've seen the horrible consequences of living with T2. I was 5 stone overweight and so far I have lost 2 stone. I walk further and faster and do strength training. I feel so much better physically than I did a few months ago.

Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Have now lost the weight I acquired over 20+ years and blood sugar now back in normal range. Very pleased.

I look more like 'myself' and obvs its great not carrying that extra 3.5st everywhere but I dont feel vastly different, definitely not fitter nor more energetic. And also obvs this has to be a lifestyle change and im mostly settled into it, but the thought of the constant vigilance annoys me. Better than going blind or losing toes though so I'll take it!

NAFLD and pre diabetes, coupled with looking after elderly parent and deciding I didn't want that for my old age. Having time to recover my MH post divorce from abusive ex so I was in the right place to take responsibility and control. 50 kgs down and feeling fab in my late fifties. Never thought I'd say this, but I love going to the gym.
