Would you go to this concert?

A friend is going, she's been excited for months.

I've just seen it on a seat filling site for £15.

I quite like the band and would go for £15, but I wasn't interested at the £80 she's paid.

One of the conditions for having these tickets is you're not to tell anyone at the venue about what you paid, but friend isn’t stupid.

This is such a bizzare problem to have. I have so many thoughts.

Do you really think your friend would be that arsed? If I made the decision to pay £80 to a concert and a friend for a seat for much less, I’d have a moment of thinking “ah wish my ticket was cheaper!” But then I just really wouldn’t care. She chose to buy that ticket, she’s not used a site where you only find out on the day, she’s had her time to warm up to the concert and get excited…I would just be surprised to hear she’d be that bothered. Your cheap ticket doesn’t affect the experience she’s planned for in any way. You say she “might be upset to find out there was no need to pay so much” but to me there IS a need. It’s the guarantee of going. Last weekend I went to see Busted and Mcfly, and when the tickets came out last year, my friends and I snapped them up the day of release (funnily enough we also paid around £80 each). If one of my friends had said to me “let’s not buy these now, let’s wait until the day of the gif and see if we could get them cheaper” I’d be like “no way, let’s get them now and get them secured, then we’ve got the year to look forward to it, knowing we’re going. Don’t want to run the risk of not getting any!” But maybe that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also your comment about not buying a sale item your friend already owns is odd to me. Why not? Again, do you really think your friend would be bothered? If I bought a new pair of boots for £100 and a month later my friend got them in the sale at £30 I just would not be bothered. Similar to the concert ticket thing, I might think, for a fleeting second, “oh god, if id hung on a few weeks I could’ve got them cheaper!” but that would be the extent of my sadness. I’d probably still be glad I bought them when I did, to guarantee them havin my size in.

Anyway I’ve rambled long enough, I think you’re hugely over thinking this secret ticket thing, just buy the ticket and have fun.

Magnificentkitteh · 04/11/2025 18:39

I think your friend will be pleased you're coming and not think much further about it

Wellyoudidaskaboutit · 04/11/2025 18:46

All my friends know I’m an avid seat filler and if they see me in the audience unexpectedly, it’s because it was cheap 🤷🏽‍♀️

I would go for it.

The existence of such sites wouldn't put me off paying full price, if I really want to see something, I buy a ticket right away, I wouldn't risk missing it in order to save a few quid.

Pedallleur · 04/11/2025 19:03

It's Central Tickets. Majority are for London but you won't get big name arena shows eg Bon Jovi/Wembley as these are sell outs but eg matinee shows in London theatres

SilverPink · 04/11/2025 19:07

Blanketfull · 04/11/2025 14:50

She might be upset to find that there was no need to pay £80.

Well in that case tell her the name of the site and next time she can wait for cheaper tickets.

Rainbowgrey · 04/11/2025 19:08

I don't think it's Central Tickets, it sounds like the site I use. I saw Kiss in Manchester for £8 with them so yes you do get the big arena tours. I was sat in great seats with people who had paid at least 10x more.

purpleygrey · 04/11/2025 19:11

Is it Adam Ant? I’ve been getting almost daily emails from central tickets trying to flog them !

mamagogo1 · 04/11/2025 19:18

Took seconds to find the organisation but it’s only for London alas

QuizNight · 04/11/2025 19:18

It’s not a scam at all. I’ve attended absolutely loads of things from the site the OP will be referring to. They are offered because it would look terrible for the band if the venue was half empty. It makes more sense to make a very small fee but have more people see and like you, and the people who paid more to have a good time, than just leave the seats empty.

No it isn’t. It’s tailored to the area you live in. I’m north west and get offered tickets for Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds.

That is one of the sites but I don’t think that’s the one they’re talking about. I’m on both but always ignore the London one as I’m absolutely nowhere near London.

Brelim · 04/11/2025 19:23

I wouldn’t worry. I do this all this all the time. Often you can get a few so you can bring a friend. They just mean don’t go shouting about it at the venue. I think telling your friend is fine. She can sign up too and get cheaper tickets next time.

Charlize43 · 04/11/2025 19:36

Is this like those z listers telling you they've made millions on OnlyFannies?

We've all got one, you know...

lolapops1 · 04/11/2025 19:41

Wow this sounds brilliant.
If you want to go then go.
Say you got it gifted or just tell them you found a cheap ticket.
What site is it?
I am a member of a ticketing website where you pay a subscription and can then get tickets for free or just pay booking fee, they tell you to invite others. This is just in North East though.
All very last minute but great events.

IAmTheLogLady · 04/11/2025 19:42

It's at the show / venue. I've done this too and had a really lovely cheap night out.
I've told my friends/ family I go to the event with but don't brag about it in ear shot of others.

Curleduphappy · 04/11/2025 19:42

This is all a bit odd

I saw Bon Jovi at the O2 via a seat filling site a few years back! Was up in the high seats though.

Curleduphappy · 04/11/2025 19:48

So you’re asking whether you don’t go because you got a cheap ticket?

this is so bloomin weird

Tofufuton · 04/11/2025 20:05

The thing about these discounted tickets, especially for the bigger shows, is that you often have a limited selection of seats, so you may not be sat next to your friend.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 04/11/2025 21:03

Blanketfull · 04/11/2025 15:54

I don't think most people would buy a sale item knowing their friend already owned it?

Of course they would!

PloddingAlong21 · 04/11/2025 22:02

This whole thread is weird.

If you want to go, go. If you’re asked say you paid the price and don’t lie. She was happy to pay full price. Lying makes you look shady. She won’t care. She could have done the same as you if she wanted, she chose not too.

You won’t get backlisted. How do you think that’s going to work!? Someone sends a description of you to them and hopes they hear your first name being said out loud? Utterly ridiculous.

Plenty of people would buy sale items a friend may have bought full price.

This whole thread feels made up?

MindyMcready · 05/11/2025 00:56

I’m concerned that you are concerned about this.

I would say that it isn’t Central tickets, and they advertise widely anyway. Although 95% of what they promote is in London, it’s worth signing up if you live elsewhere. Especially in the summer as there are a lot of very cheap festival tickets.

We’ve saved thousands of pounds over the years and tend to go to an event every weekend if there’s something interesting going on. You can’t always guarantee getting cheap tickets to exactly what you want, but if you’re open to trying new things, it’s a lot of fun.
