Why so many spiders in November?

Is it just in my house? I had the usual half a dozen or so in September, then haven't seen any since - which is the same as every year. Until now....

These things are truly massive, I've had 4 in the last week. Is anyone else getting this, or should I just torch my house? Aren't they supposed to be hibernating or whatever spiders do over winter ?

They're mobilising for the Great Spider War of 2026 as foretold by our ancestors. Stay vigilant, stay safe.

Autumn equals spider season! Lady spiders make a web, male spiders go looking for love, find it and then get eaten. 🕷️

Or they're on the hunt for some sexy time like they are every year. If it helps, next time you see one just remember it's horny.

Well, all of the ones I've encountered recently won't be horny or humping any lady spiders any time soon...

I just am surprised by how late they're about... perhaps because it's been so mild? Or are they lost after being out scaring people for Halloween?

Why kill them ffs? It’s unnecessarily cruel.

Why kill them ffs? It’s unnecessarily cruel.

Several reasons...
They're literally about to die as soon as they find a mate.
If they get put outside they die as house spiders can't survive out in the cold.
But the main one - I grew up in a country where spiders can be very dangerous, so if they're in your house you kill them before they kill you...it's ingrained in me

Oh you've done it now. On MN you're not allowed to kill spiders. I was called a raging psychopath for killing spiders in my house. I'm severely arachnophobic so I'm not living in my house if I know there's a spider wandering about 😬 they do seem to be getting huge too🫣

Slightly tangential but does anyone know what the attraction of baths is to spiders? It's not that they fall in and can't get out because sometimes I see one in the bath when I get up to the loo in the night but it's gone in the morning. Then they come back again. I actually had 2 in the bath at one time not seemingly bothered by each other. Is it something about the big white expanse makes it easier to see prey?

Conkers don't work, I chucked about 20 in the bath and the spiders still come back.

I like a bath at the weekend but haven't had one in weeks (have a separate shower) because I'm terrified that I'll just be lying back and one will run up the back of my neck.😱

I'm glad that they do like the bath because that way I can actually see them. Though when they're fucking huge it makes me cringe all over. Alot easier too hoover them from the bath😂

Speak for yourself, I've been getting them in my place for several months now - from teeny tiny housespiders, really large ones that literally seem to appear out of nowhere and give me a fright, those lanky cellar spiders and I've even got a resident orb weaver as well....that one is my favourite as it mostly keeps to itself, unlike the house spiders which often go wondering about....I give that one any daddy long legs that have made their way inside.
