when should i tell my employer im pregnant? i’ve only just found out, but it’s a second pregnancy, so i don’t know if it’s my brain playing me up, but im struggling already and im scared to do heavy lifting and all. i work in a school as a cleaner. so sometimes can be rough and dirty, so i dont wanna affect my pregnancy bc of that as sometimes we don’t even have the right material per example to clean poop of the walls ( every week there one classroom who spreads literal sh*t on toilet walls) but they still force me to do it when without bleach. but at the same time is to early i haven’t even seen a midwife yet to get proofs, so im scared that they would find a way to sack me and me not having proofs of pregnancy would really be a burden.
when did you tell urs ?

You should have legal protections being pregnant
if you are working with chemicals and lifting you should tell them so a risk assessment should be carried out
how fa along do you think you are?

i’m only 6 weeks but i get what you mean !! we work with chemicals and with slippery floors is dangerous

You need a risk assessment. I would tell them asap.

Straight away ... you need a risk assessment ASAP.

the only thing i worry about is really if they ask for proofs which i dont have, because im still waiting on an appointment for the midwife

You don’t need proof you can just claim you’re pregnant until the booking in appointment. It then confirmed. You are legally protected from the moment you Conceive and do not need proof. If a person falsely claimed they were pregnant for financial or other gain that would be fraud but I cannot imagine that is a common occurrence! And how could it be proven

CinnamonBuns67 · 07/11/2025 22:05

Straight away as you need a risk assessment. However make sure you put it in writing such as email and print yourself out a copy as proof of when you told them just in case, do not just ask your manager for just an informal chat tp tell them I made that mistake before.

thank you all 😊 will speak to them asap.
