How much would you be willing to pay towards your work Christmas party?

Assuming your company doesn’t pay for it. What would be the limit before you start thinking you won’t bother?

I only go because the boss pays for mine. It's the least the tight arsehole can do.

Zempy · 03/11/2025 14:19

Zero

shhblackbag · 03/11/2025 14:19

I didn't go once we had to pay.

FullOfMomsense · 03/11/2025 14:22

£100, but it was a weekend trip abroad/away and the company covered the bulk of the costs. That contributed to the food and wine provided 24/7 which was worth it!

starballoons · 03/11/2025 14:23

I wouldn’t stretch to more than a lunch if it wasn’t being paid for so £20ish

SophiaSW1 · 03/11/2025 14:24

Nothing!

HansHolbein · 03/11/2025 14:24

£0

Ilovemyshed · 03/11/2025 14:25

£0. If they want me at a party, they pay.

NikkiPotnick · 03/11/2025 14:26

These days, nothing.

I once paid about £20 top up, which was a job where I was mates with a lot of my colleagues and would've been paying to go out with them after work anyway. This was back in my pre DC days!

Pinkpoems · 03/11/2025 14:27

We have a big party, completely free food and drinks and usually a celeb DJ. We have hair and make up artists to the office.

I would pay nothing for this as genuinely have never enjoyed a work Xmas party in the last 15 years.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 03/11/2025 16:47

Paying towards your work Christmas party?! Absolutely not! If it's an official do, that's on the company.

So how would that work with the nearly 20% of the workforce that are employed by the public sector? 6.12 million x £50 per head = £306 million pounds- do you think that's a good use of public taxes?

I'm wondering if some of the people here have left their houses in the last decade. You'd struggle to get change for a 3 course meal and drink for £20 in mcdonalds!

I'd say maybe £50.

Edited

80% of the workforce aren't so I'm guessing that the poster is referring to those???

Nearly50omg · 03/11/2025 16:53

£00000

SardinesOnGingerbread · 03/11/2025 16:54

They'd have to pay me to go.

Kellogs4 · 03/11/2025 16:56

I think no more than £40.

CharlotteFlax · 03/11/2025 16:57

Get fucked is what I'd pay.

Lastfroginthebox · 03/11/2025 16:57

I wouldn't pay. I never had to pay for the office parties I've been to in the past. I didn't enjoy them much either so I wouldn't care if I missed them.

notaweddingdress · 03/11/2025 16:58

Depends what it was and how much I liked my colleagues.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 03/11/2025 16:58

I’ve never worked anywhere where they paid for it. I’ve paid anything froM around £20 upwards over the years. Plus drinks, transport outfit etc. I don’t go to them anymore cos i don’t drink much and would rather be home 😂

Iamdefinitelynamechangingforthis · 03/11/2025 16:59

Ours is £26 for the meal this year for just us, so £52 with a +1, followed by a pub crawl. I’m going to the meal but not the pubs as it’s on mad Friday and I really hate the crowded pubs. I’m only really going as I like the company of the ones who are actually going, otherwise I’d be giving it a miss

Howdoesithappenlikethis · 03/11/2025 17:01

Nothing, I've not been for the past few years, I find them insufferable

MCNAMARA · 03/11/2025 17:01

0!!!

eacapade1982 · 03/11/2025 17:01

30! But probably not if organised by management, I’d expect that to be paid for.

PracticalPixie · 03/11/2025 17:09

Nothing!

I really like my colleagues, but already see them five days a week. Far more than i see my best friends and family. That's enough for me.

I do go if there is a theatre trip or something like that, as I love the theatre and will happily go with colleagues, pay for my ticket and a meal beforehand too.

But a traditional Christmas night out with dinner, drinks and dancing with colleagues really isn't for me at all.

zingally · 03/11/2025 17:13

I haven't been on one in years, as I'm effectively self-employed these days. I don't miss them one tiny little bit.

But back when I did, about £35 would be my limit.
