Boring question - office chairs

DH is working at the dining table instead of his office because his desk is too low and his chair is crappy and they’ve given him a bad back. I would like my dining table back but we’re cash strapped. Can anyone recommend a good office chair for no more than £60? Ideally, he also needs a sit/stand desk but not sure we can stretch to that right now and im hoping popping his laptop on a stack of books does the job for now.

The Ikea ones are reasonable and come in at about that. They have a sit stand desk as well though more expensive I think.

Proper ergonomic chairs are £200 plus. Some employers comtribute towards one of he gets GP letter etc?

Whilst saving for a sit stand desk, I swore by the ironing board! A small lumbar support cushion on an otherwise not great chair can also help as a temporary measure. I got a mesh one from Halfords that was designed for a car seat but worked fine on a normal office chair and really helped with lower back support

Actually looking at them they seem to have gone up a lot and are more expensive that that. You could try a house clearance place?

Think I might have to settle for a secondhand chair as they’re really expensive

Agree - an ironing board makes a great standing desk.

Friends is mine set his up a a temp measure. Ten years on he still uses it. Dual use and folds away in a cupboard!

Well I can only go my experience, which is that it’s an office chair and a vast improvement on a dining room chair (that I tried using for a few months.

I bought mine 2020, it’s adjustable and I use it minimally 2 a week as now work hybrid. I don’t however have any back issues or anything that requires anything to be taken into consideration.

Is your DH employed or self-employed? If employed, his employer should carry out a DSE (Display Screen Equipment) Assessment and provide any necessary equipment.
In meantime worth checking Freegle, requesting on local Facebook and car boots. I've had access to several free office chairs in past following office refurbishments which I have given away.
