To think the word ‘puddle duck’ is now my favourite word

I came across this word today, not heard since I was a child, it brought back lovely memories, therefore I will now attempt to crow bar it into any future conversations, ( i envisage i will have a probable 0% chance of doing so, without looking slightly mad)
I am also wondering if I can legally change my surname to ‘ puddle duck’
is there any other words you’ve not heard in years?? and give you that warm, fuzzy feeling

As in Jemima?

Smartiepants79 · 01/11/2025 23:53

I’ve only ever heard of it in reference to Beatrix Potter. How are you using it?

custardcreamsrock · 01/11/2025 23:55

Ah yes, that’s probably why it remind me of being a child, ( now off to Google Jemima puddle duck, rabbit hole here I come 🤣)

It's the name of a large swimming lessons franchise across Kent and London.

Manchestermummax3 · 02/11/2025 00:48

There's a village called puddle duck.... I visited many years ago, purely because of the name!

Manchestermummax3 · 02/11/2025 00:49

My mistake... I've just googled & its puddle town.... still cute though!

"Hello my lovely puddle duck" could be your new greeting to all and sindry5

SleepingStandingUp · 02/11/2025 01:19

*sundry

It’s two words not one. Well at least the way you’ve written it is.

But I dare say we all think of Jemima Puddleduck, who was a bit thick IIRC, and only narrowly escaped Crafty Fox, thanks to Clever Dog.

I work in (surgical) theatre. If the floor gets too ‘messy’ we use a puddle vac to suction it all up but in our hospital we call it a puddle duck. It sucks everything into a measuring tub so we can monitor fluid loss.

I love this name for it, especially in such an environment like theatres 🤣

Ah yes, I remember Puddletown, isn’t it close to Piddlehinton? Lots of Piddles and Puddles in the area! Grin

The swim school that my son is learning to swim with is called Puddle Ducks!
