Car seat recommendations for tall 2yo

Looking for suggestions please as I am going round in circles finding seats and then as I read through they are unsuitable.

DS was two in October and currently has a Maxi Cosi Pearl 360 which we have kept rear facing. Advertised as suitable up to age 4 however he is very tall and has now hit the weight limit of 17.4kg.

Ideally we would like to carry on rear facing and it would be brilliant if we can also have a seat that swivels for ease of getting him in and out.

I keep finding seats but then when you read through the full details can only rear face until 18kg or 105cm.

Any suggestions of possible seats would be great please. We have a 2010 Qashqai and 2018 T Roc

Sorry to add I’m aware of the extended rear facing going up to 25 or 36kg just wondering if anyone knows of any that also swivel or if they mostly don’t general seat recommendations.

Hi OP,

The Avionaut Stardust rear faces to 21kg or 125cm, and turns into a HBB up to 150cm
The BeSafe Beyond rear faces to 22kg or 125cm.

If he continues on his weight centiles, he’ll outgrow the harness on the Stardust around 3, and the Beyond around 3 1/2.

If you’re happy to reconsider the need for a rotating seat, then I’d have a look at the BeSafe Stretch or the Axkid MiniKid 4 Pro or Max. Both rear face to 36kg or 125cm, which on weight alone would get you beyond 6 on his current centiles, but most importantly beyond 5, which is the point you could safely consider a HBB. If he carries the height in the his torso, then the Axkid would be better as it has the longest shell. It is also more compact which you will need in both your vehicles as neither have a huge cabin. The BeSafe recline can be adjusted without having to uninstall the seat.

Essentially, I’d be looking at a ERF seat now, skipping the rotation, otherwise you’ll need to buy another seat in 12-18 months, before a HBB.

Thank you that’s really helpful 😊

I'll second the Avionaut Stardust. We spent a lot of time in a local shop, trying toddler (99th centile) in various seats and then also putting the seat in the car to check leg space for passenger. The stardust was the only one that really worked for us (Qashqai owner too)

Thank you ☺️

The only thing with both the Stardust and Beyond seats is that the weight limit is lower - if he remains on the same growth line, then he could actually hit the weight limit of this in 12 months, and then you'll have exactly the same problem again - and even if you were happy to forward face at age 3, the forward facing seats only go up to 25kg on the harness anyway. It's also a lot of money to spend out to have to replace the seat very soon.

It likely is worth having a 36kg limit seat long term - sorry. What is good about these seats is that they tend to be lower down and more open, so much easier to get children into even without the rotation.

There are some good Black Friday deals on some of the 36kg seats (on this page, Minikid 4, Minikid Max and Max Safe Pro have a 25kg limit) www.rearfacingcarseats.co.uk/collections/black-friday-2025

Thank you, I’ll take a look 😊

What did you end up going for? We're in a similar position with a high centile 26 month old. We have an Axkid Minikid 4 Max already, but we need to replace our other car seat. We were considering the Avionaut Stardust before we realised the 21kg limit for rear facing, which would only get her to about 4 years old. The Axkid we have is great for her but we were looking for something easier to move between cars.

We ended up getting a Britax Romer Max Safe Pro. I can’t remember now the reasonings but it popped up when I was looking and seemed the most suitable within our price range and I managed to get it on a Black Friday deal.

Besafe stretch is easy to
move and is until something like 36kg. My kid was 18kg at 2.5 too
