Your ranking of months

Inspired by another thread what's your month ranking from lowest to highest?

Lowest

February
November
January
March
December
July
August
June
September
October
April
May

Highest

As you can see I like shoulder season (as they call it in the holiday world). Maybe controversial to put December so low but I think Christmas just makes the darkness a bit more bearable!

I hate this time of year. I have completely had enough of autumn and winter and dark evenings now and can't wait for spring and summer. So all the ber months are the worst. June and July are the best. January is slightly redeemed because the winter solstice and Christmas are over and we're heading back to light and better weather. Am I the only one who would give up Christmas permanently for year round summer?

RosesAndHellebores · 01/11/2025 21:46

Worst (worse to best(

January - dark/miserable
November - getting darker
October - heralds dark winter, harvest festival
December - dark and miserable but christmas provides cheer
March - can be bitterly cold, bulbs and shoots
August - dying summer, nippy mornings

Best (best to worse)

June - longest days
July - long days and my birthday
May - summer's coming
February - snowdrops and lighter nights (hope)
April - spring, later Easters, the bulbs
September - end of summer, back to school, mellow fruitfulness and mists and warm mid days

We have frigid and ugly winters here, and hot, humid summers. November and December only rank higher than January, Feb, and March because they have pleasant holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas).

I'm just here to stand up for February - there's Valentine's Day, Pancake Day (usually), my birthday and spring is around the corner.

Worst:

Like all the others!

smallglassbottle · 01/11/2025 22:43

Happy Months:

January - happy because it's cold and Christmas is over.
February - good because it's cold.
March - good because it's cold.
April - nice flowers, tree buds and still cool.
May - blossom time and it's usually cool.

Uncomfortable months:

June - often hot, sweaty and sticky.
July - hot, sweaty, sticky, can't go out because of school holidays.
August - still too hot, kids everywhere.

Intermediate months:

September - okay, but might be too warm.
October - cooler weather, but crappy halloween and fireworks towards the end.

Shit months:

November - fireworks, traumatised cat, shitty Christmas looming, getting dark.
December - most hated month, dark and depressing, stressful, viral infections, Christmas, drunk people, shops chaotic.

RavenT · 01/11/2025 22:47

Best:
March, April, May (Springtime, daffodils, birdsong begins, longer brighter days, sense of hope)

Good:
August, September, October (Holidays, warm weather and moving into the softness of Autumn)

Ok:
June, July (ok, but not a fan of hot weather)

Ugh:
November, December, January, February

Allswellthatendswelll · 01/11/2025 23:06

BearSoFair · 01/11/2025 21:31

Worst

January (lasts forever)
February (miserable weather)
August (either raining or too hot)
July (hot)
June (often starting to get hot)
November (getting dark and wet, the start of 'firework season')
March (pretty wet but improving from Jan/Feb)
April (starting to feel like spring)
December (ok but can be TOO Christmassy)
October (not too cold, often not too wet)
September (usually decent weather and cooler than July/August)
May (similar weather to September)

Best

I don't like it either too hot or too wet! Spring and autumn far better than winter and summer

Edited

I love the slight crispness in the air of September but you've still got those longish days.

I love the light at the darkest time aspect of Christmas. Don't love the rush or commercialism or the kind of melancholy end of year feel. The new start element of January is nice even if it is a long old month!

January - obvious choice. Miserable excuse for a month; to be endured not enjoyed.
March - should rank above Feb, as at least technically spring, but so often cold, wet and gloomy
February - at least it’s short. Plus Valentine’s Day is an excuse to do something nice.
November - miserable month, but at least it’s nearly Christmas.
October - not near enough to Christmas, and often cold and wet.
April - should be all blossom and birdsong. Often still cold and wet.
August - now, generally, I love summer. But there’s a tiredness to August. The days feel like they’re drawing in, the greenery is often brown, and the weather can be changeable and unpleasantly humid.
May - the only Spring month that is usually reliably springlike.
September - my birthday month. Plus, you often get a lovely Indian summer in September, and that refreshing “back to school, new start” feel.
December - I hate winter. But I bloody love Christmas.
June - SUMMER!
July - MORE SUMMER!!

Yes I agree about August! I love the beginnings of seasons I think.

I like this thread - interesting to read.

The number one , top month is June. All the rest are poor in comparison.

If I ruled the world the 12 months would be June x 12.

But with the rules

May (holidays)
October (birthday, autumn colours)
June (warmer, long days)
July (summer, mixed bag but I prefer longer days)
August (holidays, good provided not too hot this month)
December (Christmas)
April (easter)
September (back to school return to normalcy plus autumnal good)
November (cold, got to sort Christmas)
March (blah)
February (the worst)
January (even worser)

Furnable · 01/11/2025 23:32

I was diagnosed with SAD 11 years ago. I suffer in the winter and my sister suffers in summer. My favourite months are:

March
April
May
June
July
August
September

I hate October until the end of February as the days are shorter, I can’t lean into the candles, sparkly lights or lying under a blanket mentality I often see on here. I hate the cold, the rain, dreary weather and snow (we get snow every winter). My sister hates summer, long light days and heat. Funnily enough we’re twins!

Worst to best.
Jan-shit month all around
March- not a fan, too cold with no cosiness but not warm enough for any proper blooms either.
July and August- not a fan, I find the light nights tedious and want it to be dark when I go to bed. Also hot nights are shit.
Feb- tolerable. Just.
October- love the change in weather, the dark nights rolling in, lots to celebrate in this month.
Nov- fire work night, bonfires and allllll the cosiness flowing into full force. Love Autumn!
December- Xmas build up and all the fun in between.

The rest of the months are neither here nor there and don’t mean much to me.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 01/11/2025 23:53

I want to stick up for January! I adore the summer but at least January signals the end of winter. You can actually see the light coming back every week.
It’s really nice to have one month that nothing is celebrated. There’s no stress or spending required (ok there’s Burns Night for some but us hardly commercialised).

No one expects anything and anything goes. For example theres no “beach body ready” pressure but also no judgement that everyone suddenly goes running or gives up booze. Or conversely doesn’t because massive Sunday roasts and lots of wine is also a valid way to get through a “ bleak” month.

It’s too early for Spring cleaning and the garden will naturally look bedraggled. You can wear any old thing - Christmas fashion is done, new season stuff isn’t wearable yet. Everything is on sale too.

Favourite month is May - love that the days are getting longer, it's usually warm, the birds are singing and flowers and trees coming out in glorious pale green!
Then:
April
June
July
March
August
September
January - Christmas is over and the days are getting longer
February
October
December
November - the very worst month
