Dark and rain out there. Just what does November have to offer. It must be my worst month.

I enjoy November. It’s full of fireworks, craft fairs, school performances, excitement for Christmas, planning lots of things to do with friends over the festive season. Cosy PJs, snuggling under blankets, winter tv. And work is 100miles an hour so every day goes by so quickly.

i’m with you though on the miserable weather.

NoMoreBrownSofas · 01/11/2025 16:46

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. It's one of my favourites. Do you like remember, can you just count down to that?

December sorry

BashfulClam · 01/11/2025 16:55

From now to February i despise every day. Fucking dark, fucking cold, fucking wet….

Allswellthatendswelll · 01/11/2025 17:03

I think having taught for years I always dislike November and March as they never have a holiday in them. Also they are just meh weather wise!

TheChosenTwo · 01/11/2025 17:09

Well I do quite like the darker evenings but they can feel especially drab and dreary when it’s very wet outside.
Feels like a nice excuse to calm down a bit and enjoy some sofa time with tv which is exactly what I’m doing now.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 01/11/2025 17:14

November is ok, it has it's good points. I'm liking the autumn leaves just now 🍂 🍁 🍃

February can fuck off though.

squashyhat · 01/11/2025 17:18

I had a lovely walk this afternoon through woods with trees still with colourful leaves on them, a big field of winter wheat showing bright green, a skein of geese flying over and honking and a big moon on its way to being full rising. Now I have a purring cat on my lap listening to a few fireworks going off outside. So there are good days 🙂🍂🌙

BashfulClam · 01/11/2025 17:29

I really despise January with every fibre of my being! It lasts 678954346346876655 dark dismal days. I seem to never have any money despite budgeting well. I go to work in the dark, I return home in the dark. It’s mostly wet and cold and spring seems so far away….

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/11/2025 17:33

There is nothing to recommend the months between now and the middle of March. Except daffodils.

This.
Worries about the roof and the fence. Trying to dry laundry without resorting to the tumble dryer. Stupid dark house in a stupid horrible ex council estate. No sun in the garden until March.

NotMyProblemAnymore · 01/11/2025 18:38

I don't dislike any month really, just prefer some to others.
Not being into Christmas much, December is busy in stores, stressful to shop; I'm glad when it's over.
The redeeming thing about December, days slowly begin to get longer.

November is cozy and quiet, a chance to semi- hibernate with Netflix and that book you always meant to read.
Grey skies, pretty sunsets, flameless candles, coloured fairy lights, hot water bottles, warm fuzzy blankets, early nights, and counting the days till March.

notgoingonabearhunt · 01/11/2025 18:42

November is beautiful but you have to see it - if you’re comparing it to June you won’t see

the slant of light on late autumn afternoons across the fields
the colours, especially if you go to a pond or lake and look at the colours
misty mornings
even the grey afternoons have a bleak sort of beauty
Desolate, still twilights

What you need to try to find (and it’s hard in this hectic life) is the stillness. November is the winding down of the year. Look past the Christmas crap; it’s there and it’s raw and beautiful, I promise.

I hate the new thing of Christmas starting on the 1st of November! It should be at the start of Advent and November is Christmas free. I'm about to start making a lot of pumpkin soup from the October decorations and we still have flowers in the garden.

UtterlyOtterly · 01/11/2025 18:49

I agree with notgoingonabearhunt

Beautiful autumn colours. Some fabulous sunsets. Still lots of colour in many gardens. The Christmas onslaught can still be ignored.

A long walk in the woods is brilliant, or a walk on the beach.

Evenings with a good book, some crotchet or knitting and a hot drink are also brilliant.

We have several family and friends birthdays in November so that is another cheerful thing.

Remember to take vitamin D every day, it really does help.

I feel a bit the same!

Netcurtainnelly · 02/11/2025 11:39

A little bit of sun today. Makes everything a little brighter.

I don't mind November. Weather is decent here so that helps.

Nothing, but nothing is as bad as January.

countdowntonap · 02/11/2025 11:42

@notgoingonabearhunt I’m sat in the garden, wrapped up to enjoy the sun, and your beautiful words have just brought a tear to my eye. I find the winter months (mainly the darkness) really hard, but I’m going to save a screen shot of your post to look at on the tough days.

verycloakanddaggers · 02/11/2025 11:44

November is really beautiful. The trees, the light, the colours.

It's a great month to go to the beach or climb a hill. Plus anything indoors feels cosy.

Plus autumn food!! Hot chocolate, soup, casserole, crumble, jacket potatoes, roast squash...
